Blacksmith Daniel Tokar at the Willow Forge in Shepherdstown WV shows how to set a Claydon clamp to hold two rods at right angles.
English Blacksmith Stuart Hill had a demo at the 1982 ABANA conference where he showed these clamps. I may have the name wrong but remember Claydon England is where his shop was.
The clamp itself is a piece of square pipe, twice the size of the rods, so a 1/2" rod needs a 1" square pipe. The pipe is cut to longer than 1 1/2 but less than twice the size of the rods, so 7/8" long piece of 1 " square pipe.
