In Burtis accident the medical crew (Dr Sid Watkins) turned up and found Burtis helmet covered in the colour red, they expected blood but it was actually the paint from the tyre wall.

I know the jaw section on the front of Burti's helmet was actually broken clean off by the force of the impact. He went from 180mph to 0mph in about 2 inches.

Thanks for the vid, great as always. However, nothing beats Sven Heidfeld's crash there (2003?). Only the cockpit remained of the car....Also, Kristensen had a big one in 1997.

The attention is always on Eau Rouge and Radillion but Blanchimont leading down to the bus stop chicane is also a really scary corner to crash at, you're going so fast that one wrong move could have you in the hospital, though that's the same with every fast corner really

Ehm no. He lifts his hand because the steering wheel can break them if you still have them on it. The impact shake the tyres all over the place which goes back to the steering wheel. I heard once it's one of the first things you learn in racing school.

They’re trained to do that as an automatic reaction to an incident (so they tend to do it for very little ones as well) bc it helps your body in the crash bc if not the hands absorb a lot of the crash and it can be very painful and cause injury a driver

2nd clip, manufacture's fault, as the commentator says, there's no excuse for a wheel coming of a freewheeler, we send aircrafts to Jupiter and way beyond with a factor of thousands of that force without having the smallest component flying of. IMO a formula car loosing that kind of part should send the lead techinician of that area to jail considering he volunatarily chose performance over safety of specatators
