This Quick Tip is about the upcoming shadow catcher feature in Cycles. It implements this functionality into the Render Engine so you do not need to fake it anymore.
A shadowcatcher material will be transparent where hit by direct light, while shadowed areas will stay opaque. It can be used for CG Integration (CGI), and Product Renderings (Infinite Background Effect), etc.
