Probably my favorite song off Spectres. Something about cruising around with the windows down in the summer night by yourself listening to this tune. Reminds me of my youth.

Perfectly said! I have done this exact thing and it is absolute bliss cruising with this song playing in the car at night exactly as you’ve described. It is DEFINITELY a touchstone to my youth, and it hits me right in my soul every time. It’s a treasured song for sure.

Buck Dharma stated that the Producer, the late great Sandy Pearlman, convinced him (Buck Dharma) to edit the song because he thought it would be a radio hit and needed to cut down the length of the song.

There was always talk of an additional verse that Buck did not use for Spectres, I have heard it elsewhere on youTube and it's typically wonderful. I don't think that Buck was entirely comfortable with the live vocals for this one or Golden Age of Leather so they were underplayed, both fabulous songs.

Two things I think of when I hear this song,one almost in a way a sequel musically to Don't fear the reaper and secondly I picture the scene in From Dusk till Dawn where Salma Hayek is dancing in that skimpy outfit with the snake on her shoulders even though she didn't dance to this but,just imagine that's all. Afterall it is a song about vampires,is it not?

Bloom the weakest link of the band. Hardly contributed anything. Albert was more important and he got the boot. No coincidence the most of their albums sucked after Fire of Unknown Origin which was Al's last as a band member. back to Eric: Allen was the second guitarist.
@stevenwilkinson1265
7 жыл бұрын
Bloom had a massive influence at times, he was probably the leading contributor to the Fire album for example. His vocals were great around that that time (check out the concert footage from 09/10/81 for Veteran of the Psychic Wars, excellent job from Eric). Albert was a massive loss but the band (including his own brother) voted him out.
@JohnHoulgate
7 жыл бұрын
BalladOfThinMan - That should give you some idea of the strength of the band. Eric Bloom was arguably the greatest singer of the genre during the mid 70s. He was nowhere near the instrumental prowess of the other four band members. Donald Roeser was in a league all by himself. Allen Lanier could have played lead guitar in any band. So could Joe Bouchard, though he was BOC's bassist. Albert Bouchard could have played anything in any band, except lead singer. Bloom did more than an admirable job fronting the band despite what he lacked as an instrumental musician.
@stevenwilkinson1265

Yes Eric "tinkers" on guitar & keyboards ... but he wrote some good songs & for me he had a great rock voice until recent years that suited material like Astronomy, Flaming Telepaths, Veteran, ETI etc ...
