Thanks for this video. A couple details worth mentioning for future viewers (1) oil fill for that final drive is now 180cc. No longer fill it until it runs out. (2) splines need high-moly, high-temp grease (e.g., Castrol Molub). Both ends of shaft. (3) That shredded boot is kind of important to keep the splines clean and dry, and (4) I think that aluminum wheel flange has been recalled (they crack).

What part is the wheel flange? My K1200R has had it replaced by previous owner but not sure about my k1200S. Also, are there any recalls on the 2009 K1300S?

Always good to not reuse brake disk bolts. I would have replaced front and rear drive shaft boots. Check front and rear universal joints for wear.

Maybe, maybe not, they are fine for now and the 120k miles on the driveshaft, it seems ok, this is not my bike and I have only really ridden it, if I owned it I'm sure I'd do things differently but I support the owners effort and just recorded the process to share in case anybody wanted to see how much fun bmw ownership can be, haha, jk Thanks for watching and consider subscribing

Can't you fix the old one?

While I'm capable of fixing it, economically it made more sense (was cheaper) to put a good low mileage unit in, sadly a lot of things are that way now here in the U.S.

If this was only how to do the procedure this is somewhat ok. But man, this wonderful bike needs care and attention. That rubber boot should absolutely have been replaced. It might be that all the grit and grime that gets inside that final drive caused that old drive bearings to fail. And when washing no water to be sprayed to the right, brake rotor side as the bearing at that side is vulnerable to water. It should be waterproof but ain´t.

I appreciate your input, I definitely agree it could use some attention. I believe bearing failure was due to heavy loading over many miles and possibly other factors? Yes, the rubber boot... It's still running as of now but, yea, it's an up hill battle sometimes and people don't care for things as they should but I am supportive of this bmw owner's determination to continue ownership and performing some of his own maintenance. Thanks for the heads up on the water vulnerability tip, I'll be sure to pass it on

I learned how NOT to do this. This is why nobody will work on my K1300R
