I also find myself wanting to buy another bike every time I walk into a dealer. I'm sure there are a thousand different reasons to justify buying a new bike but, if someone is a rabid motorcyclist like myself, I firmly believe it keeps me somewhat "sane". As we all know, when you're riding a bike there's really no time to let your mind wander and you have to focus on the task at hand which I love. I'm in between bikes at the moment and not riding is making me bat-shit crazy. Great to see you back and ride safe. Peace

TJ you need a bike ASAP. As described, it’s a form of meditation. Good to hear from you.

Oil is kinda like boxers. It's all about what makes you feel good lol. RP, Redline and Amsoil are all great oil. Availability though it is hard to beat mobil 1. I have gotten tired and lazy at the ripe ol age of 40 and just order it all online now lol. No more chasing oil and filters around town.

Many moons ago, Consumer reports did an oil test using NYC cabs. After 50k miles, it didn't matter which oil was tested. They changed some at 3k intervals, some at 6k intervals. In the end, it didn't make any difference. When they opened the engines they were all fine and free from damage. 50k miles is a lot more operational hours in a cab than in a typical car. They spend a lot of time idling waiting for a fare. The base stock is the difference between conventional and synthetic oil. They all use the same base stock. The difference between brands is their additive recipe. Even that's all the same ingredients, just slightly different quantities of each.

saddlebag interesting study. I’m not very surprised - as long as the oil quality and change intervals were within reason - which they seemed to be. More evidence that I am wasting money on peace of mind.

Yeah, I think frequency is probably more important than mileage as contaminants will eventually spoil the fun. I think it's a good idea to use a racing type oil if you're going to do track days though. They tend to add a good deal of zinc, which is supposedly still a lubricant even when the oil molecules themselves give up the ghost due to high temps, pressures, and shearing of an engine running on a sunny desert day, banging of a 14k redline over and over...

The difference in price is relatively small and if it gives you confidence then buy. Not sure how the NYC taxi study relates to a very high tech bike that is not running almost continuously, but applying the same approach I do to fuel in my s1000r, put the best in and the. If it does you did the best you could.

brian glendenning good points. I use the good stuff (gas and fuel) for the same reasons. Someone would have to sacrifice at least a dozen bikes, have control and intervention groups, to get the answer . Even that would only apply to that specific make-model. It won’t happen so I’ll pay to quell my anxiety.

An engine is an engine. Some are built to meet a price point, others to meet a performance point. If you're just street riding it ain't going to make any difference. I was riding (semi) high revving inline 4s et al before "synthetic" was even a thing. Before they started putting "friction modifiers" in conventional car oil, it's all I ever used. Now, that crap makes our wet clutches slip. I completely get the urge to baby your baby. My Triumph only calls for oil changes every 10k miles. As a retired engineer, I know they wouldn't spec something like that if there wasn't a 30% or better margin in the change interval and it's actual expected life span. Still, I can't bring myself to wait that long and change every 5k. FWIW, my bikes are ridden nearly continuously ;)

Glad to see the new videos from you. Regarding engine/exhaust sound have you heard an Aprillia V4, either RSV4 or Tuono? I'm somewhat biased since I bought a 2017 Tuono RR in December, with Akrapovic slip on. Amazing deep throaty sound in my opinion. I do agree with you "Royal Jordanian" S1000R also sounds awesome. Do you have any track days coming up? I got in the first one of the year Monday at Sonoma. Ride safe.

sjsu Aviation you have a great bike. Really like the tuono and super duke - for different reasons. The BMW spreads me out a bit more like the duke and is a little more track friendly like the tuono. Tuono sound cant be beat
