I saw TOTO in "1984" in "R" city's best soft seat theater, as a working professional musician I booked my tickets/seats directly in front of the audio mixing board ! ultimately the best seat in the house ! OMG every one up there was absolutely 100% pro ! but Bobby Kimball was the most impressive that night ! today it's sad the ICONIC sound of ToTo is gone but the remnants "R" still trying to sell it ! basically there a over paid cover band !

Steve Lukather and David Paich also sang lead vocals on the first Toto album, so I wouldn't go so far as to call Bobby the only "original" voice of the band. As for their biggest hits, "Rosanna", for example, starts with Lukather on lead vocals. "Africa" starts with David Paich on lead.

Bobby was completely inaudible during choruses except screaming at the end. His voice was very good here so I don't understand why he decided not to stay closer to the mic.

No you wouldn't. Watch more recent videos of him performing this song. He sounds absolutely horrible! He's completely tone deaf and can hardly hit ANY note...high or low. It's a shame what partying can do to the great talent that he was. This performance was AMAZING though...he was spot on with just about everything! 😀

His hearing has taken a huge toll. It's hard for him to sing on pitch in a full band but he can do it in an acoustic setting. His range is still there but without being able to hear well it's taking a huge toll for him to stay in key.

Its up and down for Bobby. He lost his on the Falling In Between tour but seemed to get it back in 2010. Bobby is 71 now and due to his age , the amount of shows he does a year and being almost deaf it makes it harder for him.

True that Bobby sounds like Toto, no getting around that. But Joseph Williams has a better voice, I actually prefer his voice which has gotten stronger while Bobby's voice got much much worse over the years. His voice was starting to get bad way back in 2004.

Africa is a Paich song, not meant to be sung by Bobby. It sounds like that he can't sing that low, it sounds like he's out of breath. Even Joesph Williams singing this song live in the later years after Paich retired is even good (Better than Bobby's.) Sorry Bobby, your time was in the early years of Toto, not now.
