Bonanza was all about family sticking together and doing the right thing. Today, America needs a show like Bonanza more than ever. As kids growing up in the 50's & 60's, we learned a lot about integrity and honor from this show.

Lorne Green was 21 years older than Michael Landon, so he really was old enough to be his father. Dan Blocker split the difference between them, more or less.

My family always watched this show on Sunday night. Brought to you by Chevrolet. During the season opener or one or two shows into the season, Chevy always advertised their new models. It was like looking through the Sears catalog. We waited with anticipation though my parents never owned any GM vehicles - Fords and Chryslers and that one Renault. The sixties.

Dan Blocker used to come to a neighbor of mines house. They worked in the St Francis Hotel and other Hotels in S.F. She was a cocktail waitress and He was a Matrede' (How ever you spell it) Well Dan Blocker used to come in all the time and they got to be friends He would come out to West Marin and hang out. I've been tot he Ponderosa 3 times and I was best man at my best friends weddign from Kindergarden. He got married in the Virginia City Chappel on the movie set for Bonanza

Here is irony; Dan Blocker, Michael Landon, Pernell Wilde, and Lorne Green were all within 10 years of age of the other. So it was a very excellent show, but Lorne Greene in no way could have been a father of 3 by age 10. On Bonanza 'Hoss' real name was Eric Cartwright

Why on earth there aren't more complete seasons, or even (preferably) a complete series DVD box set of Bonanza, I just don't understand. 1 of the longest running, most popular (best/beloved) TV series in history. And the same goes for Gun Smoke. What, like 1 season is out? Perhaps with Gun Smoke, since there are like 20 seasons, the studio feels they would have to charge so much $ for box sets, not enough could be sold to turn a profit? At least more full seasons (of both) would be nice!

Yeah true. Maybe it was for the real motherless families back then to show them that it's not that unpopular. There were a lot of divorces back then. My parents split up in 1962 when I was five and we live with dad for a while. There were plenty of others like the Ozzie and Harriet show that portrayed the normal family setting.

Cheap swipe at the military...and wrong. But back when this show was being made, Hollywood was NOT so decadent. There were higher standards then. Not to say that no one swore or drank, but they did have morals. Now, not so much.
