Just curious how you like the Allison transmission for heavy haul? We use it a lot in the northwest in the dirt industry and their bulletproof and great for not getting stuck in mud or gravel.

So far it is working out. But I am still curious to see how it will perform this winter.

@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 I think the T/C on mine will cut power to prevent wheel spin, only thing I hate, otherwise does fine to move farm equipment with the 450 X15!

just curious, how do you rate the traveling public as far as patience and courtesy when you are long or wide? Do you see a big difference is their attitude in different areas?

Country folk are always more courteous and patient than city people. Doesn’t matter which city, they’re all bad!

How are you finding the fuel usage with the automatic transmission and the ware on the brakes ? On our feed haul trucks we found the fuel usage to be about 30% more and the brakes took a beating , our operation is alot of low speed gravel road work where as you do heavy but the back roads the permits send you with all the turns are paved. I personally prefer the standard transmission but this company was convinced by the rental company that the automatics were the greatest .

The fuel economy all depends on what gear ratio they use. This truck runs about 100 rpm higher at 65 mph so it’s burning more fuel. But it pulls a little better.

Tight roads, that climb after you turned onto 173 east was a pull. That peterbilt has a loud fan, must be a smaller rad. Are you running an automatic in that new truck? Be safe see you on the next run.

Yes the fan runs a lot in this truck and yes automatic.

@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 I know you run what they provide, but any sense on the Peterbilt vs Western Star? Western Star was a manual? You may have to concentrate so much on things to the sides of you and about you that shifting is a minor concern.

@lancecluster the Peterbilt has a nicer cab inside. It is a bit more comfortable. However for working the Western Star was better. Tighter turning radius and I prefer the manual. But I am thankful to the Peterbilt engineers every time I need windshield washer fluid 🤣. If you’ve ever drivin a Western Star you know!

i understand why you miss the western star, the noise is terrible in the Pete.
