WTN has received the first pictures from Zepa after its surrender to the Bosnian Serb Army on Tuesday (25/7). The pictures, shot on Tuesday by the Bosnian Serb Army, show Bosnian Serb military leader, Ratko Mladic and one of his Generals, Zdravko Tolimir signing the surrender agreement with the representative of Zepa's civilian population, Deputy Torlak. The commander of the Ukrainian UN peacekeepers in Zepa was also present. Serb general Tolimir then shook hands with the Moslem commander at Zepa, Mustafa
Palic. After the surrender, Bosnian Serb troops in the town began rounding up hundreds of muslim inhabitants and loading them onto buses. The inhabitants were eventually bussed out of Zepa to the
government-held town of Kladanj. Some elderly and injured were bussed to Sarajevo. Other than the injured, there appeared to be no men of fighting age. UN spokesman Chris Janowski said on Wednesday (26/7) there are fears that Zepa may become the same as the other former UN-designated 'safe area', Srebrenica, where about seven thousand men are still missing. Refugees from Zepa who arived in Klandanj on Wednesday (26/7) were again mostly women, children and elderly. There was no UN involvement in this part of the evacuation from Zepa. The refugees were taken to Staric, near Kladanj for temporary housing.
