Underrated video! For what I'm hoping to learn, this is the best demo of a circuit I've ever seen. Even thinking to compare the same signal through the Bass input was an ingenious touch 👍 And so, now I clutch my wallet and brace, as I go find out what a Freeze will cost me... 😬

the freeze is kinda of expensive but unique in its ability - but you can analyse mod effects in a similar way with a sustained note from say, a synth. Thanks for your comment

Earlier this year I had to sell my EQD Pyramids after losing work but later bought a BF-3. I think it a greatly underappreciated pedal and an amazing piece of gear. Thank you for the video!

Amazing vid - you've inspired me one step closer to my Stereo ONLY demo channel. Mono guitar needs to be relegated to the scrap bin, just like Mono recordings were decades ago!

I have a Freeze and never really considered doing this. Then again I just added the BF-2 and MXR tremolo. Didn't feel like doing this with chorus or phaser lol

Hello! Thanks for sharing this video it's great. For the last few seconds of the video you have the Bf3 plugged into itself right? Is that what's causing the oscillation? How does adding the comp/sustain pedal add to the effect ?
@PedalScience
3 жыл бұрын
yes, plugged into itself. The compressor just prevents it from clipping the audio interface as the volume increases quite dramatically when oscillating.

Awesome demo! This definitely cleared a few things up. Seems to be running two slightly offset delay signals and the Ultra mode is offsetting the second signal even more. The bass input roughly halves the delay time, so the inputs are kinda like switching between a BF-2 and an HF-2. Also the pan seems to work from a shallow depth triangle wave LFO running at the rate of half cycle of the flange LFO, as opposed to the gate which is a full depth square at the rate of 16 cycles per half cycle of the flange LFO. Why can't they just explain this stuff in the manual?! I can use my ears (and logic) to tell the "Ultra" setting has a "more intense flanging effect" lol.

let me get this straight... you're saying that if you go through the bass input it will sound like a boss hi band flanger?
@leecampbell1763

@@AL_1991 I dare say so, although don't have a BF-3 so couldn't confirm. FYI, the HF-2 is identical part for part to the BF-2 except the BBD delay chip just clocks at half the rate so the delay line is just half as long. I believe the old BF-2B clocks at the same rate HF-2 as well so likely very close in sound as well.

Does the BF-3 have stereo inputs? In other words, do the bass and guitar inputs work in stereo if you plug in two cables? I have a long stereo chain and I'm considering getting one.
@PedalScience
3 жыл бұрын
Good question! I just tested it; unfortunately the bass input only functions when nothing is plugged into the guitar input. If a jack is inserted in the guitar input, that will take priority and anything plugged into bass in will not pass through to either output.

@@PedalScience That's a shame. Here's another trick question: Do you think it will work in stereo along with another mono in/stereo out pedal (Let's say a Boss PS-3) if I plug them in parallel? Is it possible to do this with a Line Selector?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm just curious as to why pedals have stereo inputs. I understand having stereo outputs but how come some have two inputs? What does that allow you to do? Once again sorry if that's a stupid question but I just don't really understand the application for that.
