"Hole" was the greatest British comedy episode of anything that I have ever seen. Not only was it incredibly hilarious but it relied entirely on the comedy chops of Rik and Ade. It really showed their comedy genius.....

I love the whole dynamic of two people who hate each other stuck together in a flat....they took it to the next level when they got stuck on the ferris wheel. Great bit of theatre to film an entire episode in one space...one of my faves :) great swearing too

The ‘Carnival’ outtakes, with Eddie saying a different thing that has been thrown through Curry’s window, in each take; that is the perfect example of what sitcom actors should do, particularly if they’re recording in front of a live studio audience. You’re gonna end up doing around a dozen takes, at least, for every scene, including pickup shots from several different angles; so you’ve got to think of ways to keep it fun for the audience, so they both: don’t get too bored, but mainly so they have a genuine reaction to the punchline, each time, despite them having heard the same setup numerous times before. You could you end up coming up with something incredible, that’s even funnier than the punchline that’s written down in the script. On the other hand; It also provides you the perfect opportunity to make your co-stars deliberately “corpse” (laugh/break character), if you say something different, from what they’re expecting you to say...which is always a fun thing to attempt, if you’re feeling like a bit of a bastard that day, or get bored, and want to cause mischief haha. It’s even funnier if you can get them to corpse on stage, in front of a live, paying audience: unprofessional, meh, a little, I suppose. But I’m not suggesting that it should be done if it’s a serious play; it would ruin the mood, say, if you were doing a stage version of ‘Schindler’s List’, and Schindler started laughing for seemingly no reason haha. To me, doing it in a serious play, would be even more hilarious, but I understand I’m probably in the minority; and I doubt I would be a popular person, amongst the rest of the cast, if I was the one responsible for it haha. But that kind of improvisation obviously came incredibly easy to the likes of Ade Edmondson, and Rik Mayall, as you can tell from these outtakes, as well as their stage shows; they were so comfortable working together, they made the whole thing look easy, and effortless. Yet you can see the incredible amount of work, and effort they actually put into each episode, and the live shows, by how much they sweat throughout; particularly Rik, who I’m sure could have actually been wrung out, if they could have found someone with a big enough pair of hands to give it a try haha. They were just incredible as a team- a complete force of nature; I grew up watching, and rewatching, them, from about 7 or 8 years old, and it’s sad that there can now never be any new material from them together, due to Rik’s tragic death; which I can’t believe was back in 2014- 6 fucking years ago; I have no idea where the time has gone, but I wish the bastard hadn’t gone so fast haha. But at least we have many hours of incredible material to watch, and rewatch, until we find a way to bring people back from the dead; then perhaps Ade, and Rik, can finally get around to doing that 4th bloody series, that the lazy bastards had been promising for decades haha. 😀👍

No, it's more about making the line sound natural and spontaneous. If you say it with a slight variation each time it gives it that improvised feel. (Otherwise it can end up sounding robotic/dead/over-baked.)
