These little machines are amazing. For 90% of the world, they just aren’t intuitive. Even the simplest stuff can be frustrating. You need to understand it and practice using the thing. I think that’s why so many were bought, used 10 times and put in the closet. Most of the used ones you find are like brand new. Many thanks for the video and the book!

Exact video. I'm rather late to the party with this little machine but, especially given it's age, I'm very impressed by its capabilities. I expected it to be a digital version of an old eight track tape machine! This thing is better equipped than some recording studios I worked in back in the day! Outstanding bit of kit for the price and your video has taken a lot of the frustrating trial and error out of some of its functionality for me. Nice one dude!

Hey there I just got my R8 today and I’ve been watching your video it is very helpful I’ve watched it several times I had a task cam for track and found that really hard to work with I looked at this at Amazon and it looks to me like it might be more user-friendly in for the price point I got it at 200 I decided to buy it as I am 73 years old and bored and I have a guitar and I have some percussion equipment and I’d like to make it useful so I appreciate that you have done what you have done and I plan on going over it 50 more times Garrett

Robert, thank you so much for posting your Zoom R8 videos. On the the strength of your KZitem material I purchased one and it arrived on Friday Dec 1. First test drive was I put the Squier HSS through the guutar effects and see how usable they are without tweaking the effect edits. They're great for a quick start but do need tweaking to get the desired tone but perfectably usable in certain contexts (I recorded using the bass with chorus and my brother couldn't tell the difference and he's been a music head for over 40 years). Today I recorded a 5 track John Martyn cover. My first end to end session from recording acoustic on the external Mics followed by electric and some keyboard phrases, mostly strings, on top of a backing vocal. Wow! Zoom really have done a good job in packaging this most affordable of units. I was able to navigate my way through record, volume mix and master in a couple of hours without jumping out the window in contempt of the world. There was a period of frustration where I loaded the raw tracks onto Ableton Live but this proved senseless as the last time I used Ableton I put the Midi Controller back in the box to gather dust for a year. This bears out what you say about Zooms user friendliness. It is so much easier. The only improvement I could suggest would be a HDMI output with graphics to a high res monitor so you could stack the tracks one on one to facilitate editing. Otherwise, totally happy so far. I trust Zoom have rewarded you and some of the other instructional uploaders for their sterling efforts. Once again thanks so much for the great info.

I just watched hours of videos that managed to explain and clarify exactly nothing more than the downloadable manual. Your video confirmed within minutes that the R8 in fact can do what i need it to, and thus the H4N will be getting some company soon. Thank you for making a straight forward, idiot proof demonstration of the loop-functions, i was going crazy watching series of other videos on the subject, that went nowhere in several 30-45 mins episodes.. This was exactly what i was looking for!

@@tignytigny thankyou...i bought an r8, used utube to learn how it works, bought an old macair with free imovie, and and put an android file transfer in it,i use the power cable to put the master in the apple, drag it into imovie, put a photo onit, export to desktop, use file transfer app and drag it into camera...so i can upload to utube... mission accomplished, took some learning and lateralthinking as i have only phone internet..but ive done about 25? videos, the big sd card still has room..and i found that if i run a mic thru the bass effect exciter on the 2 input i get a great vocal level and sound...💋

First of all I found this incredibly helpful and I bought the Better Zoom ebook you suggest below... So thanks! I found an interesting variance to your bounce instructions. If I am playing my work with the sequencer mode on (channels 1& 2 are amber) , I found that I have to turn up the level of 3 (the channel I'm bouncing to) to make the bounce work. Whereas when channels 1& 2 were green as is the case in your video, you could bounce with the level 3 down to 0. Thanks again

I bought the manual and found it to be a way better guide than the Zoom manual, which is good only for reference. After using the Zoom R8 for 4 months now, I bought the Zoom Live track L12 but it doesn't seem to have its own rhythm tracks. For now I am using both- for mixing the choir and for playing my backing tracks recordings at Church. I'd wish you wrote a similar manual for the L12 with recording tips, tricks, and techniques.

Hi, great video. I'm going to buy it because of this video. I already own an R16 because I need more inputs for guitars, bass and ext drum machine. But it doesn't have the most important thing: the sequencer. So I plan to buy an used R8 and to connect the R16 stereo out to the two R8 input set as line. I know I could sell the R16 as well and buy an R24 that has got everything, but it's so expensive. Anyway, very good job man. I'll buy your book too

Many thanks for your excellent explanation of this unit. I've had mine from new for about 18 months, but me being me I don't like instruction books especially the one supplied - FTMI ! Your video is great because I can SEE and hear, and I'm certain I'm not alone. You are a great teacher because you take time to explain in a KISS way ( Keep It Simple Stupid ! ) My R8 basically sits gathering dust and is a waste, but now your great videos have prompted me to use the thing as should ! ( Maybe you can do one on an old Korg Trinity Plus as well ? Hahaha! ) I did have a problem with the 1/4 jack sockets - they are very tight - so tight in fact, when pulling out a plug it left the centre part inside the R8 ! I made a video for other people who may have had a similar problem - the ONLY way to remove the part is by using a rusty nail and some superglue. I sent the unit to the maker under warranty, only to be told they couldn't remove the pin without me accepting the fact they would PROBABLY damage the socket internally if given the go ahead ! Hence I had them send it back, then my own ingenuity took over - and won ! A well deserved thumbs up and 5 * * * * * for your video from me !

Thanks for making this video. Recently I've been playing with the idea of maybe recording some of my own proggy stuff and had come across this product as a potential buy which is why I watched this video. I'm not a bad singer, better than average on guitar and mediocre at best on bass... Can't play the drums for shit 😂. Let's just say I'll never be a live performer 😂. Ive always had a rudimentary understanding of how music is produced but my mind has just exploded whenever I've even looked at a mixing board. This video has given me the confidence to spend the money as after watching it I'm certain I'll at least be able to record and sequence something.... Of some description. Very clear, consice instructions. This also has the added benefit to f being a control console for your pc mixing software which for the price is brilliant. Thanks again for the vid.
