It a good AI. I used one for 3 yrs until the lcd screen took a dump(device still worked). After 2 yrs with an Eleven rack (great AI but lackluster and only one guitar input), I sold the 11 and went back to Zoom for an R16. These work great, Zoomy sounds yeah but, some are very good. If youve ever owned a ms50g, g3, g2.1nu, these are many of the same tones. In the handsof a skilled guitarist like Mr Menga, its a viable option. Add in that it works as a control surface for Sonar/PT, its worth the $_. Nice demo.

Thanks for the demo! Just got the R24 last week! Really Really impressive! How they pack all that in such a dinky unit is amazing! I love the portability! Being able to run it on batteries is brilliant! And it’s so light! I guess a big thanks to Zoom wouldn’t go amiss either. Thanks Zoom! I’d recommend this unit to anyone! My advice, go for the R24! For the extra dosh it’s we’ll worth it. Thanks again!

Rich, if you find the time we could use a good in depth review of the R8 as a recording unit. Also, as long as I'm imposing... a review of the Zoom G3/G5 or the latest Zoom G1on guitar multi fx would be nice... if you happen to have one of course. As there aren't many good reviews out there. Your 'to the point' review style btw is excellent...

BS stands for Brian Setzer. SV is Steve Vai. DZ is a Diezel amp. You can find them on the zoom website manual. I ended up renaming all the presets to the amp its emulating. Your video is what convinced me to buy one of these. But I ended up trading it for the r16 for more inputs. But I prefer this screen over the r16

For $200, to have this level of quality and variety, a multitrack, drum machine and sampler/looper... I truly dont think most people can appreciate where we are technologically compared to just a decade ago. And this IS... almost a decade old machine, I think. No, its NOT a high-end recorder, but its $200--$300 bucks and the size of a notebook.

@rmenga

The exact dimensions are 257 mm (W) × 190 mm (D) × 51 mm (H). A DVD is 1.2mm thick, so the R8 is roughly about 43 stacked DVDs in height.

Wondering how some of the ambient effects will sound with saxophone, I currenty use a Boss ve-20 vocal performer and a Roland sp404sx for harmonies and djfx but the Zoom offers some enticing flangey reverby stuff. Plus I need a home recording multitrack so bang goes another £170 and I'll be happy.

Is it possible to connect your guitar amp directly to the R8 to record as you can directly to computer? I have a Spider V amp that can interface with a DAW via USB cable. I wonder if there is an equivalent connection to the R8 to capture my specific amp tone rather than have to plug into the R8 and rely on its tones exclusively? Or would I have to use a mic?
@rmenga
6 жыл бұрын
If you have a model of Spider V with "Direct Out" XLR in the back, you can feed that into the XLR of the R8 but I'm 100% sure that will sound like crap. You could try XLR-to-1/4" female adapter and run a standard 1/4" guitar cord from the Spider to the R8 instead, but that may also sound like crap. The adapter is however is cheap So it might be worth a try. If you don't have a Spider V with Direct Out XLR, you'll have to mic it or go with a separate standalone guitar multi-effects processor. I use a DigiTech RP360 where everything is connected with standard 1/4" tip guitar cords and is direct-out configurable for direct-to-mixer recording (like the R8.) You don't have to use the RP360 as there are others that get the job done, it's just what I use.

Can you use it to record into Facebook live with stereo or higher quality capabilities? And is it only one stereo track recording at a time? & Will I be missing out on a wonderful function by purchasing the R16 and losing the looping and sequencing of drum loops?
@rmenga
4 жыл бұрын
You can send any audio signal you want to the R8 as long as it's via 1/4" or XLR at 44.1kHz or 48kHz recording quality. Stereo recording is possible but requires two tracks. The R16 does not have a drum machine in it. Only the R8 and R24 models have that.

Was searching for info on the Zoom H4 as I need better audio recording options for my channel doing live looping/jamming like this sort of thing kzitem.info/news/bejne/rHp_qHpqk56Ld6w Trying to figure out if the R8 can work in my live setup as it looks very very useful indeed. Versatile too. Can use it in the studio as a controller for Cubase.
