Pour fuel down there and fill up the float bowls Once you fill up the float bowls you'll be able to run the engine for a few minutes until the float bowl runs out This way you don't have to keep pouring gas down in the carb gas washing the cylinders. Excellent tip as most housings are junk.I had numerouse leaks on my AMC race engine.A quick cut off the intake and thermostat housing mating surface allows a dry paper gasket versus RTV which sometimes ends up where it shouldn't be .There's not much in the way of high quality one piece thermostat housings.Anybody with an idle CNC machine might look into producing one. There is also a small market for a line of OEM quality thermostats as most over the counter thermostats are junk.

If this was a flat tappet engine, like most small blocks, even some centerbolt small blocks, this would of more than likely completely wiped some cam lobes. But a roller cam engine is one you don't have to worry about this on initial start up. Being it has a fuel pump block off it has a possibility of not having a roller cam, because roller cam engines didn't have a manual fuel pump provision on the block.

Just make sure you have a fire extinguisher and a cut off for the ignition in case something goes wrong. Burns suck..There are stands that utilize the factory mid mounts and block to support the engine securely. Some have provisions to mount a fuel pump, small fuel can ,battery, radiator, gauges, ignition switch etc enabling you to safely run the engine, break in a newly installed camshaft, check for leaks, etc. The narrow 4 wheel stands support the engine at the back of the block are not designed to run an engine. The V8 and six-cylinder engines produce a considerable amount of low RPM torque. One or two cracks of the throttle at 2000 plus rpm is all it takes to topple the small narrow 4 wheeled engine stands. If you must run the engine on these types of engine stands, attach a hoist as a additional safety measure.

Doesn't sound bad at all the plug wires on on backwards thise are header plug wires so the straight end goes on the plugs it doesn't matter if it's a big block or not. Looks good and sounds good my friend keep up the great work

@@Michaelobama184 Unlikely, but you make a good point. You should following the break procedure from the manufacture. Most cam grinders recommend a specific break in with the proper oil, spring pressure, etc.

It's great to see someone from a younger generation working on "old school" mills- there's alot to be learned from them- maybe pass them skills down to the next gen- keep the hobby alive!

It's the same clip over and over again but here's a tip....install a Temporary out of vehicle constant feed fuel source so you don't whipe out your cylinders!!

Looks good, sounds good. Not a fan of running on an engine stand. You got lucky.
