Maybe sometime this spring or early green up I’ll do a short update. I’d say about 30-40% of the red dogwoods I planted are still there. The canary grass and giant ragweed is a lot of competition and I think shaded out some and the other that didn’t survive the stupid rabbits ate the bark on the bottom 1ft.

Kewl video! Thanks for teaching me what those crops are! Had a great crop of brassicas planted early August and first time didn’t over seed them. Brassicas were up to my knee and areas of the 2.5 acres was eaten down to the dirt when I headed home after muzzle loader season. Wanted to get up there just to sit in a tree and do some scouting but that stupid Holiday hunt made me stay home. So those purple crops are turnips? I also had softball size yellowish crop very similar to the purple turnips. Are those just a different type of turnip? Do you rotate your crops every year? The other half of the plot I have a Fall forage blend of oats, forage peas , soybeans and couple weeks later Winter rye and then switch crops next season. Been told you can get a fungus in the brassicas if you don’t rotate. Is that true?

Wow 2.5 acres down to the dirt by December you must have a lot of deer or in a big woods area. Yes the purple ones are purple top turnips. They yellowish turnips your describing may be sugar beets. I try and rotate my brassicas in most spots every 2 yrs. But in certain small plots I have done 3 yrs. I’ve never had any issues with developing diseases or fungus’s in the soil.

I would keep planting your brassica that thick just give them some good liquid fertilizer. If you see a lot of rain in the forecast use some dry fertilizer too@

I mainly just use dry fertilizer. Usually 9-23-31. A lot of people over-do it on the nitrogen and don’t add enough or any P and K

Man I am so ready to shed hunt but it's still just too early, I don't start until middle to late February. I got cabin fever bad, so waiting the next 3-4 weeks is gonna kill me lol.

Great video. Im honestly surprised how dug up the plot is I figured they would give up & look for standing grain (if its available). I bet they're getting some hydration from those greens too. Will you do an update video on your remaining plots? Im wondering how the nutricrave corn has been doing relative to the other varieties you planted. Cheers from N. IL

Yes I’ll have updates on my corn and soybeans out soon too. The NutriCrave is ok but not as good as expected.

Do you have a problem with squirrels and field mice eating your turnips? Is there a way to keep them away or not to eat them? Great video

I’ve never seen any evidence of squirrels/ rodents eating them.
