Hi Wako! I stumbled across your videos as a 12 year old in 2011 , I am now 23 and am still watching your videos haha. I'm very glad to see that you still post videos from time to time and would like to visit Hokkaido and maybe a few other places in japan when I have the funds. My family growing up was not very interested in out-door activities so I always found your lifestyle extremely interesting. Maybe one day I'll get a hunting license as well :) . Thanks for all your vids and knowledgeable content!

Wako-san - you're butchering has become much more efficient than 10 years ago. I see you now harvest not only the Longissimus dorsi ("backstraps" or NY strip equivalent cut), but also the psoas major (Filet mignon), and some of the top sirloin, short loins. Very excellent cuts of meat.

Hows winter going for your area of Japan? I'm in Yorkton Saskatchewan Canada and its been bitterly cold as well as having a LOT more snow than usual (so much for global warming this year😅) We are currently in another freezing apell of -30-36C nights with -20-25C afternoons and the snow in the country side is deep. So deep the deer are looking pretty gaunt here and I don't think it will be a very good hunting season this fall. Felt so bad for them we put 40 kg of Alphalpha feed out for them in the back yard this week and may put out some more in a couple more. Hopefully paying it forward will lead to one or two in the freezer this fall. 🙂

I hunt whitetails in the southeastern Appalachian mountains. Due to the thick forests and limited visibility no scope is needed. Lately I’ve been hunting with an M70 (but with limited 10 round capacity of course) and have had good results out of the 7.62x39 cartridges. Given the spotted deers relevant size, I wonder if this smaller caliber would be as effective, or even legal, to use on this species?

Have you tried Magnacut yet??? If you like the S45VN then I think you will love Magnacut blade steel...
@greekveteran2715
2 жыл бұрын
Those are way to hard, to be any good for a hunting knife. Any steel can cut, but what's proper, is another story. Best steel for a hunting knife isn't CPM 3V neither Magnacut and S45VN, it's the 52100 or any handforged knife made of ballbearing steel. The only other steel, I would take if that wasn't available, is the Vanadis 4 Extra. Both not only perform better than CPM 3V or Elmax, but also are even more proper, for the tasks a hunting knife gets through. They both have better edge stability (even than CPM3V and especially Bark River;s which is far from the best out there) both hold their edge longer amd they sharpen easier than CPM 3V or Elmax. Don't fall into the marketing traps. There are better "user" steels out there. Also, edge retention, doesn't make a steel better... it has to be balanced, otherwise it isn't good for use. Super hard, means no toughness, no field sharpening abilitity, no edge stability... Those are steels for collectors, not for knives that are meant to be used.

Mr. Wako, I am looking for a good multipurpose knife, something that I can use for survival, bushcraft, and camping. I think a standard rampless Bravo 1 or even a 1.25 would be a good choice but I am unsure. Do you have any recommendations? This would be my first Bark River knife. Also, I do not hunt often, but if the opportunity arises, I would like to be able to use my knife for that. Thank you!

Im not Wako but if you like a thicker blade go with the normal 3v bravo 1.25. The longer blade might be more multifunctional then the regular bravo 1. I'd personally prefer a lt-version tho because it slices better. Hope you find the right knife :)

The Sauer is overpriced for its performance. You can easily get the same accuracy (sub MOA all day long) and less weight with a Ruger American rifle in 308 or 30.06 at 20% of the Sauer's cost.

Some of you commentors are hilarious. Mind your business about his choice of shots. This is his hunt and his situation. Nothing is perfect in nature nor is it usually pretty and clean. If his family was dependent on that meat do you think they care if it took 1 shot or 3? The usual audacity of white/western privilege. Let this man hunt how he sees fit. Great video!
@aleksandersever3039

You are wrong. The animals shoud be dispatched with minimum suffering ie with the first shot and 300 meters is as this video proves too great distance to assure (on a regular basis) the animal is killed with the first shot.
