Great idea about the extra line in your life jacket.

Nice tip about the electrical tape on the caulk tube. Hadn't seen that one before.

literally happened this summer an old three loop bridle broke at the middle loop. I didn't have to change it out on the water, but I did do it in the water waist deep tied off to the dock. I had some 3mm dyneema ready for replacing the bridle and I did the same thing. Tied it on with a bowline on both sides. But I got the second knot a little bit closure to the eye and it ran great. I have to have an assortment of spare parts and lines ready because we are using some old boats for youth sailing camps here in Texas.

I liked the idea of 85% tightening the screws. However, I might suggest that you clean the deck and eye strap surfaces prior to new sealant. And why not do the other screw hole as well.

A regular MacGyver move, Lee. Something breaks, and you whip up a quick fix without batting an eye.

Was the temporary bridle still class-legal for the race, or did they give you a DQ for that?
@LeeSideSailing

Technically speaking it is not class legal, and if someone wanted to protest me for a repair on the water- that would be a bit bush league. I would have not been able to sail under those heavy winds without the bridle, and all the force would be on the forward boom block, risking catastrophic damage…. So it basically boiled down to a safety issue. No one protested me. Also wasnt vying for top positions.

Am I to understand that I can make my own bridle out of line?
@LeeSideSailing

You may, but it will not be class legal if one is concerned with that.

@@LeeSideSailing Lee I would hate to have someone complain if it wasn’t class legal. A lot of this is to preserve the licensee’s business by mandating you have to buy OEM.
