For everyone who continues to believe it is not a design flaw but a quality control issue or manufacturing issue...Good luck in life. For those of you applauding Toyotas commitment to fixing their eff up by replacing all of these engines with brand new ones...What other choice did they have other than producing an engine without catastrophic flaws in the first place. For those of you excited about the receipt of a new engine...Your truck will never be same. An engine swap on these vehicles is not a quick and easy process. The value of every one of the affected vehicles will also be negatively affected.

A few things. It is the honorable thing to do from Toyota. Now some worries. If you go to a Toyota dealer (My wife has a RAV4 hybrid) so I take it in. I don't know how many techs are at a typical dealership depending on size but not all the techs would do this type of work. Second, I read where to replace the engine on this truck they remove the body. If this is true what are the chances you get a truck back absent rattles and squeaks even if you have the best tech in the world. Let's say they can do it without the body off, you still have to connect, disconnect turbos, connectors, A/C units, etc., etc. A complicated task. This would have been my solution if I was Toyota. Offer to buy the truck back for a new '24 similar model at 0% financing or a cash buyout if the owner prefers that. Owners who want to keep their trucks but the truck is running fine, give them a 150-,000 mile no cost warranty provided all service records are kept and no deductibles. Just my take and I bet my solution is cheaper than replacing 100,000 engines and as an owner I would prefer this. This solution puts me in the driver's seat so to speak. If Toyota does a buyout they at their option can replace the engine and have the dealer resell it as used and let the dealer pay a fair price to Toyota for the truck.

Great news for Toyota tundra owners. I had to have my 101,000 mile 2013 Ford F150 5 L VA replaced due to a bad exhaust valve and low compression in one cylinder. The entire job was 10 grand. It came out of my pocket and I did it because the rest of my truck isn’t great condition and I take, good care of it. About 50% of the miles are towing with a 5000 pound trailer. I changed the oil every 4000 miles and I’ve done all the other maintenance. Saw a video about the valve. It would be great to have gotten some help from Ford, but Being way out of warranty, I didn’t expect it. This reminds me of how Mazda almost went bankrupt replacing rotary engines in the 70s. It just seems like Asian companies stand behind their customers better than any others. I would not want to buy any new brand of half ton pick up today. I think, they have become incredibly more complex and less reliable across the board. I don’t know if my pick up is worth more than a standard pick up with the old engine. But it saved me a ton of money on buying new one. It works great and the small shop I used did fantastic job. Not too happy with Dealers.

I have a 23 non hybrid tundra and I’m skeptical of the fix. First off it just says new engine. Is that a FULL new engine? New short block? It’s very vague, not enough details. Second off no matter the fix the cab has to be pulled and the engine has to be rebuilt/replaced. Every single one of these trucks will lose the factory spec and their truck will be forever a rebuilt. I don’t know if it’s possible and it would cost so much more but I would have more faith if the trucks were put back on the assembly line and properly factory rebuilt.
