I theorise on the Bird Men, the giant Bird Ship and more in the new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. My Twitter: / _zeltik Intro music by: bit.ly/RuvenWegner
Anyone else going through these old theory videos to see what people got right, and what people got wrong? It's interesting to see what was right, and hilarious to see how off the mark some things were "These bird people can't be Rito because they don't look exactly like Rito, now lets talk about how they're loftwings because thats clearly a lot closer to the mark"

It also could well be Roam. For those who are unaware, Roam is a character that featured in the A Link to the Past comic, referred to as ‘The Mystery Knight’ and a master archer from the Knights of Hyrule. Despite actually being a human, the comic states that the Dark World changes the shape of those who inhabit it based on their hearts, so when Roam enters into battle with Link for the Master Sword in the comics, he transforms into a humanoid Eagle. Combining that information with the image we see here, we can draw a few interesting conclusions. If this is in fact Roam, then Breath of the Wild may actually be taking place in some form of the Dark World. Later in the trailer, the camera panned over a desolate and dark-looking area, a stark contrast to the lush green meadows we’re familiar with from the title. This would raise another question, why does Link not suffer a similar transformation? If we refer back to the events of the comic, Link manages to maintain his human form by controlling his emotions, meanwhile Roam saw his transformation as an advantage in battle. The Eagle man thing also can be seen equipped with a bow, further supporting that this is indeed Roam. Finally, this new character can also be seen wearing that same blue color as Link and the female character from before. Again, if this blue clothing is some form of link between characters, we could be looking at a begrudging ally for Link on his adventure in Breath of the Wild.

I agree! He talks about design, but have you seen the zoras from earlier games? They look nothing like now! Ai Aikawa m Considering the similarities (same beak size, same type of talon and etc.) between that bird and the bird in gameplay footage (who btw uses non-human hands to play an instrument) which is called a "Mirsrtol" or something like that, it is highly unlikely that these are the Ruto, perhaps an evolved version but not exactly the same.

In the Ocarina of Time manga series, there is a side story called Rouru of the Watarara...The Watarara are a race of bird people who travel to Hyrule once a year for their migration. To my knowledge, anything extra in the mangas are not considered canon, but the new bird men could be part of this race. Unfortunately I cannot read the story to find out if there is any connection to the Sheikah though. I also want to note I first saw this mentioned in another KZitem vid, but can't remember who's it was to give them credit...but it prompted me to check it out!

Frankly I still think the bird men are Rito they are just have a more "Wild" design, This is not the first time a race got a major redesign. The Moblins look completely different in this game too. The korok are/were the kokiri. Hell, the Rito are supposedly "evolved" Zora. They could be a subspecies to the Rito, like the swamp monster River Zora to the elegant Sea/Lake Zora. But that is just my 2 cents.
@TheChazzyC

People are just desperate to have this game be after Wind Waker. The Rito are Zora who were forced to become bird like to survive. These birdmen in this game are LEGIT BIG AND POWERFUL BIRDS, they look just like the loftwings and it makes sense for the loftwings not to simply disappear but to also evolve like the other races in zelda lore.
@AstarasCreator
7 жыл бұрын
Well I for one don't really think this game came after wind waker nor do i really care. If they are evolved loftwings, sure ok whatever, birds evolving into bird men is better than fish men evolving into bird men.
@AstarasCreator
7 жыл бұрын
Personally I always thought that the Rito where just a new tribe that migrated to hyrule, and the zora of hyrule left for a sea with more fish and less monsters and/or perished because they weren't saltwater zora or just got destroyed when Ganondorf obliterated their island. But whatever, that is just my headcanon. It doesn't really matter.

I have 3 theories on this: 1-They are Rito which is possible as the ones we saw are in a "Toon-ish" version and this is what they would look like in a more "realistic" fashion. 2-Fokka like the ones we see in the Great Palace in Zelda II. Technically it's not mentioned whether not they were enemies or just obstacles. In Zelda II they were guarding the Triforce so perhaps that's their connection to the Royal Family. 3-Evolved form of Loftwing. I believe the game is either after SS or TP. For my idea #1 it's not necessarily restricted to the Adult Timeline because like we saw in the TP HD mural perhaps Rito do exist in the Child Timeline. For idea #2 it could take place in any Timeline because those bird people could easily be call backs. For idea #3 it would fir more if it were after SS
@IronsaintEntertainment
7 жыл бұрын
Good to know I'm not the only one who thought of the Fokka/Fokkeru from Zelda II and Link's Awakening! The Falco looking one in particular looks dead ringer like the old sprites of them both. While I think these Birdmen potentially being related to the Rito, Oocca, or the Loftwing could and is very likely possible, part of me thinks people shouldn't overlook the possibility of them harkening back to the Fokka and Fokkeru. Breath of the Wild takes quite a bit of inspiration from the first Zelda, so it'd be intriguing if they took from Zelda II as well in that aspect by harkening back to those. I mean, already they're taking from Zelda II when it comes to the difficulty, I'd say. So tying in and fleshing out the Fokka and Fokkeru would be a really exciting thing to see them do. Especially since the Fokka and Fokkeru are undeveloped background and origin-wise, so they could tie them to the Rito, Oocca, or Loftwings and it be perfectly fine. Which is even more interesting to consider.

I really could see the bird people being evolved Loftwings, they humans went back to Earth and left them up there. So no longer being relegated to flying cabs, they could have evolved. I also have been thinking about the idea that the game may feature some kind of flashback or time travel(we all know how Nintendo loves time travel) where you play as the original Link that is being revived. Kind of like these segments will fill in the blanks for Link's memory loss. But on the other hand it could also be the Ooccoo, their tech was pretty far ahead of Hyrules, I could see it eventually becoming a giant bird ship.
@IamCanadian3333

I remember speculation that The City in the Sky in Twilight Princess is the same as Skyloft in Skyward Sword (Hyrule Hystoria even hints this possibility, though doesn't confirm it), and that the Loftwings changed form into the Oocca. I am excited though to learn of these Bird Men, and the carvings in Twilight Princess HD I think was most certainly a hint to them (I think Eiji Aonuma had even stated that Breath of the Wild was referenced in Twilight Princess HD from a lore perspective, you just had to pay more attention, case in point, the carvings). It also now adds new information to which Timeline BOTW takes place in!

I come from the future, and i must say that, at this point with all the information we have, and the confirmation that these are the Rito, the theory that the must've evolved from the Loftwings it actually have all the sense, even more than the Oocca being the evolved version of the Loftwings. Once i heard some who told me that the Rito in this game are actually the Ooca's evolution , but this theory has more sense.

I disagree with HMK's analysis for one good reason. If Link is a Hero reincarnated (one that we already know about, according to Aonuma), him wearing those clothes couldn't happen in the past. The hero wears the traditional green tunic (probably the final cloth to obtain in the game), and judging by Zelda seemingly wearing similiar blue clothes, I think the bird man scene takes place in the present day. It was stated that the blue clothes he wears in the many trailers revealed up to this point is one that you can acquire near the end of the game, btw, so probably it is blue because Link has already completed the dungeon and restored the bird people's home. On a side note, the one scene I believe it takes place in the past is the one showing the pink balls of fire flying from the castle. It's no coincidence that the next scene shows TP's destroyed castle town. That scene shows what Calamity Ganon actually did 100 years prior to BotW's events.

[Long] I have a theory of my own. Ever since I heard that the overseers of the E3 demo would "turn off" the demo if you attempted to try and complete more than one shrine. Now this intrigued me. I put this theory together when I watched the gameplay footage for about the third time, and the video where I got the "demo cancellation" information was still fresh in my head, so it didn't take long to make what I think makes the most sense. When you're on the plateau, you only have access to all but one rune in the game. The runes you have are the two bomb runes, the stasis rune, the cryonis rune, and magnesis, leaving an empty slot for what could have only been assumed as another shrine/trial someplace away from the plateau. This is where the gears in my head begin turning. During the Game Awards gameplay footage, Bill Trinen and Nate Bihldorff were on a quest to find a shrine. They play through it and it seems as how a standard mission should be built, but something was off at the end. Instead of seeing your normal orange-to-blue pillar that we're used to associating with the word "shrine", we get another statue of the Goddess Hylia. When I thought this, it just clicked. It is my belief that somehow, by collecting all of the spirit orbs in a region, you have to find the harder-to-find, out-of-place shrine that requires real puzzle solving to get to. From the beginning of the trailer I thought to myself that it was a little odd that an NPC would have to guide you to structure that's so abundant through out the world and this explanation has held me over and makes more sense each time I go over it. In many videos of gameplay, you can see the statue inside glowing just as it did in the footage, but something tells me the glow won't disappear once you get close enough. Instead, something, and I can only guess what, will happen. A guess I have right now is that this is the dungeon per the region. TL;DR: I believe that there is one Goddess Hylia statue per region and collecting all of the spirit orbs from the regular shrines in that region will "unlock" this statue to let you complete the region dungeon. P.S. Please excuse my writing being all over the place and erratic because that's just me after watching the trailer and gameplay. My hype is through the roof! Yay 2017!

This game is introducing some cool variations of the races we all know and love. IM very excited to see "The Bird Men" though my favorite race is the Zora. It might change when I see more of this new race.

Interesting. I really like all your theories, since they are usually so well thought out and very plausible. It would be so cool if the bird men in the videos were somehow related or evolved from the Loftwings... likewise, the bird ship being a dungeon would be epic. Can't wait to find out.

Just on think, if the zoras could become the Rito from OoT to WW. According to the theory of this being the flooded Hyrule after the great sea receded(is this the word?), would it not be possible that they are what the Rito became during this time?

Just noticed something quite interesting: When Falco is flying to the bird men's mothership, he uses a kind of hurricane to get there. That hurricane is pretty similar to the hurricanes Link uses to get to the Forbbiden Woods in Wind Waker, with his Deku Leaf. Since we've seen the Deku Leaf in Breath of the Wild, maybe Link will use it to enter the mothership.

In Twilight Princess, I believe Shad, from Telma's tavern said that the Ooccoo we're really close to the gods before the Hylians. My theory: 1: Loftwings we're in Hyrule before Hylians 2: Loftwings evolved into the Ooccoo 3: They keep Skyloft and make it their home 4: Some Ooccoos are able of speech and have a civilization in the sky 5: They evolve and grow to be more humanoid 6: Become the bird-men from BOTW and develop their City in the sky and turns it into a ship instead If I am correct, then your theory would be true too since they are a different race to the Rito and Zoras, plus they will have a connection to the Shiekah since they are also connected to the gods.

In regard to the loftwing portion, I saw a clip of someone showing gameplay on the switch recently and in the beginning when they first walk out onto the cliff from the chamber Link wakes up in, you can see some birds flying that looked larger than normal for how far away they were, and they slightly resembled loftwings. Maybe they still exist in this game and will be used?

The birdmen remind me more of the Fokka. Their appearance is far more similar right down to the talons and head. Their may be some linearity between the species, but I'm thinking Fokka in this case.

Thought that came to mind. assuming the HMK theory on time is off. Falco has blue garbs the resemble Link, also a bow that has markings of the Goddess. In the trailer there is also a young Hylian man who vaguely resembles Link being trained to fight Bokoblins by an older soldier. Could the races of Hyrule unaware of the Sheikah's plans be trying to each raise suitable replacements heroes for the Goddess?

"They don't look exactly like the Rito, So they might be a different species!" Right, because the Rito couldn't have been redesigned to suit BotW's style.. No no. They wouldn't do that. They would keep them looking EXACTLY THE SAME... *heavy sarcasm* Even tho there are already Koroks soooo... Rito seem like a logical next race..
@nworder4life

No, Rito's make no sense whatsoever. Because for the MILLIONTH time, this game cannot be in the adult timeline. For SO MANY REASONS! The Koroks you see are the same ones but they are from a different timeline. These koroks did not transform because of a great flood.
@BradleyKlein
7 жыл бұрын
nworder4life It is explained is Wind Waker by the great deku tree that the Koroks did evolve from the Kokiri due to the world flooding, in order to be able to fly to other islands to plant the seeds to one day UNITE THE ISLANDS INTO ONE. The Koroks drained the sea, bringing Hyrule back, but due to being underwater for hundreds of years, many places are in ruins. There is a collectable object called Sea Salt, which description says it is solidified salt from the Ancient sea. Now, there are elements from every game in this game, you can see a destroyed Hyrule town bases on the Twilight Princess one. I think they used that one because it was one of the best town design of all the games. also, there are mountains and cliffs that resemble the ones from the Zelda I artwork. I believe this game takes place on the Adult timeline. And maybe the sheikah have found a way to open portals to other timelines, so that's why you can summon wolflink? Or wolflink is just an addition to the game that has no story impact, he is implemented so people buy the amiibo and play Twilight Princess HD to Max out his stats. The bird people could very well be the rito, but a redesign, and the giant bird ship could be called Valoo.
@nworder4life

***** Wind Waker's explanation of why the Kokori evolved into the Koroks has absolutely nothing to do with breath of the wild. It gives a reason why they evolved it doesn't say that would be the only reason. Look there's just no way it can be in the adult timeline. New Hyrule is created and the old Hyrule is in the sea and yet we clearly see in BOTW that the great plataeu is where Zelda and Link came to the surface in Skyward Sword. Also in WW Ganandorf died witht he master sword in his head, he was turned to stone. When he was alive, he was not only mortal but the most humane version of him we ever saw. It is IMPOSSIBLE for this to be in the adult timeline, ancient sea salt coudl refer to anything, not the wind wakers great see. The koroks you see in this game are NOT the Koroks form the wind waker. These bird men look nothing like the Rito and they look very much like the loftwings. The rito were Zora's that looked like disgusting beak humans thta needed magical dragon scales to create wings. These bird men are big and beautiful birds with no human features whatsoever.
@SOLIDShift_VI

Actually the Deku Tree never says they "EVOLVED" -- he says they "took on these forms" Pretty sure he never even mentions specifically evolution. And to that point, why can the Rito ONLY exist in the adult timeline? DID I SAY BotW WAS IN THE ADULT TIMELINE? NO! If the Rito came from the Zora in one time line, why couldn't that happen again? And to that point -- the director for BotW is the same as the one from SS and he really seems to prefer doing as he pleases with the story. Furthermore, the Zora are KNOWN to have two currectly existing species -- the more violent ones we see in Zelda 1 and Link to the Past ect. -- and the more beautiful 'Legolas" non-enemy ones we see in OoT and TP ect. So HOW is it not possible for there to have been a point where a third speices could have existed to split from the Zora and become these NEW Rito. And to that point what happens when the game comes out and Nintendo DOES call these Rito, EVEN THOUGH it may not take place in what ever time line? OH btw, I don't care about the time lines -- I personally believe they only exist because certain fans wanted one. They are arbitrary at best, and Nintendo has already stated that they start with the gameplay features of a Zelda game BEFORE the story. And I think that Nintendo WILL create the story they want to and THEN try to fit it into the timeline, because telling an interesting story with interesting characters and fun gameplay is Nintendo's priority. NOT whether or not everything fits in the made-up BS timeline.
@nworder4life
7 жыл бұрын
SOLID Shift Because the Rito are a forced evolution of the Zora race, said to have evolved specifically because of the great sea and also because we have 2 other timelines where the Zora did not go extinct and where the Rito do not exist. Meanwhile you have the big beautiful birds from SS, what happens to them? Do they just magically disappear as a species? he loftwings sored in the sky with speed and grace that no dumb ass Rito could ever match. The Rito looked like chicken mutants in comparison! They have different mouth's, one bird beak and the other human lips! can't even get wings unless they get magical scales from a dragon. People like you always do this, you hope wish and pray for a specific thing to be the way you want it to be with ZERO evidence to suggest it is. You may not like the timeline but it's in no way an ass pull. Miyamotto had a timeline planned since ALTTP when there was no demand from fans, Auonuma took over the timeline because Miyamotto couldn't keep track of it and while Gameplay comes first, story is very important to Aounuma and where the games can be placed in the timeline.

I'm totally digging the Loftwing theory, but I don't think we should count out the Ritos just yet. And besides, this wouldn't be the first time that a race in the Zelda universe has had a drastic design change. I mean, even looking at the different variations of mobilns throughout the series is a great example of how much different things could look. I'm super excited to find out the official time line placement of this game though. I keep going back and fourth where I think it will land.

So glad you also think that they are not Rito... I was afraid everyone would be saying that, even though it is quite clear that they're not. Loftwings are one of my theories about these bird-men as well... but there is also another bird-like race that we could consider... the Oocca. I know the ones in TP look nothing like these bird-men, but it is implied that they once looked a lot different, and the City in the Sky has clearly been designed for larger creatures than the tiny Oocca of TP, so perhaps these bird-men are either what the Oocca once looked like, or are simply different sub-species of the Oocca race, with Oocca actually existing in a range of sizes and shapes.

Ganon wreaked havoc and tried to take over the land. Link fought Ganon at the final battle. Ganon was about to defeat Link when Zelda sealed Ganon at the castle at the last moment. The Master Sword was heavily damaged from Ganon's power. Link and the Master Sword were taken to safety by the Sheikah/Zelda. Link wakes up 100 years later and the remaining Sheikah had been watching/guarding from the flying ship that seems to be connected with Hylia/Royal Family. Link has no memory but Zelda does and she must guide him. She has been holding the seal on Ganon for a long time but her power is weakening. She must call for the Hero before her seal is broken, even if Link is not fully ready/restored from the battle with Ganon 100 years ago. Falco (i know its not Falco from starfox im just using the name because Zeltik did in the video) doesnt trust that this Link who has no memory is the real Hero or that he is ready to face Ganon. Falco is a descendant of the sheikah from 100 years ago so he does not recognize Link just by looking at him. Falco only knows of the stories/legends that were passed down by his people/race. If Link can prove to Falco/the bird people that he is the true Hero, Falco/the bird race will trust him and offer help/guidance in return. Link must complete dungeons/fulfill the prophecies or stories that were passed down through the sheikah tribe to gain trust from Falco/the bird race.The five feathers on the wings of the airship represent the 5 main dungeons in the game. After Link finishes the 5 dungeons he will gain access to the airship. The airship may be a 6th dungeon and allow Link to access new areas/the final dungeon and be the catalyst to reaching Hyrule castle and/or Ganon. I have no proof or evidence of these claims. I know this is NOT exactly what will happen in this game. I am not commited to any theories this is just a bunch of random ideas that dont really connect or necessarily make sense. Its a whole lotta fun to just throw it out there though! Let me know what you think! Im hoping this will get others to brainstorm and come up with new ideas and theories about Zelda!! SUPER hyped for this game, bye!!

Are you talking about Fokka or Fokkeru? If the Fokka, it could be. Replace their arms with wings, give them a different attire, and make them friendly, and it they would definitely fit the profile. And given how detailed they were back in Zelda II, a reimagining of them with wing-arms isn't too much of a stretch. Though the Fokkeru might be good candidate too. Given they are have wings and tails much like the birdmen. And much like the Fokka, are humanoid birds. Though, no signs of them spitting fire yet, if that were the case.
@hylianmontage451

Psion I believe the Fokka were modelled after cocatrices a sub-species of dracanoid(dragon) that has more typically avian features, which is probably why they spat fire. However this/these new species don't show any dragon-like feature so I doubt that they're related to the Fokka.

It wouldn't be the first time they changed a races appearance. Look at the Zoras from Zelda 2 compared to modern zoras. They even got a change from being hostile to friendly (although they are river zoras and the friendly ones are ocean zoras). I think they'll be mostly hostile with the airship being a sort of dungeon maybe And there is a friendly one (not the first time we've seen a friendly enemy) I just think they'll be called the fokka or at least related to them considering all the other throwbacks to the old games they've packed into botw.

New theory! Breath of the Wild could be a combined timeline game. That would explain why we see Twilight princess' Hyrule castle & marketplace/fountain, ocarina of time's temple of time and ruins of castle town, and possibly the koroks & the rito (or closely related to the rito) from wind waker. In that case it would probably take place after ocarina of time and majoras mask, but before twilight princess, wind waker, and a link to the past. What do you think?
