My friend sold me his preorder and I just got it in. Such a great user and it looks beautiful to boot. Also it may have the best OEM sharpened edge I’ve handled. Almost makes me not want to have to sharpen it. Almost. Bravo Brian and Reate.

Oh nice!! Which colorway did you get? I have a plain-Ti/non-flipper sitting in a box on my floor waiting to film an unboxing. I've been traveling a lot, was sick for a while (which wrecked my voice and meant I couldn't film anything), and was otherwise just super busy, so I've actually got a whole pile of awesome things waiting to be unboxed!

I really enjoy your content and have a new grail knife. That Yeager-M in the green handle and brass is a beautiful knife and one I think would be great for my one EDC. If you have advice on how I can purchase one I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words! And yeah -- these are worth hunting for. If you want one of the heavily-modded ones Fanatic Edge already did, you're going to have to find it on the secondary markets. I'd recommend Brian's FB group, one of the other generic B/S/T FB groups, or Reddit's u/Knife_Swap. There aren't a ton so they don't come up often, but they do pop up. An alternative approach would be to just score *any* Yeager-M you can find, and then send it off to one of the mod shops to have a similar mod done to it! I don't know if Fanatic Edge himself does customer mods like this anymore (that's how he started, but his business has grown a lot), but he probably does. If not, there's folks like @knifemodders, @geckocustomz_stephen, @cap_city_creations, and others on IG that can do some wild and spectacular mods for you, including knurling or frag milling and the like.

also as a knife fanatic do you know if there will be any of these (any variants) released in 2023 or is it discontinued and where’s a good place to look. Because eBay prices are crazy and not many deliver internationally. Appreciate your reviews 👍

I've not heard anything about a new batch of Yeagers coming out this year. It's entirely possible, but seeing as there have now been three batches of Yeagers, two batches of Raptors, and now two batches of Dutchmans (the newest version being am Urban EDC exclusive), it seems likely to me that he could explore a new model in 2023. But the last batch of Yeagers was quite large, so there's a lot floating around the secondary markets. eBay prices are indeed a bit crazy. 😅 I usually look there as a last resort. I find the best secondary markets for knives are: 1) Reddit's r/Knife_Swap 2) Facebook groups, especially a group specific to the maker/brand you're looking for (most have some kind of B/S/T feature, or sometimes that's the entire focus of the group). Those two seem to have *by far* the most availability and also the best prices (largely because of that high availability). Beyond that, there's (in no particular order): - Blade Forum has an entire section for B/S/T - folks sell on Instagram, often using the #knives_for_sale tag or advertising through the @knives_on_secondary account - there's a newer community-founded secondary market called knafsale.com - there are B/S/T Discord channels - if you're looking for high end/custom pieces, sites like Arizona Custom Knives, Fablades, Fort Henry, etc have second hand knives they sell on consignment, but usually at a premium price

When you say fanatic edge have modified it, do you just mean just coloured and textured or have they also tweaked tuned, and sharpened?
@KnifeNerdery
Жыл бұрын
On this one Brian leant me, Fanatic Edge did the milling pattern on the handle and all of the anodization, and I believe that's the extent of it. I don't believe they changed the blade here, but FE has offered sharpening services in the past. They likely didn't tune the lock bar at all, but they probably did do some basic level of unavoidable pivot tension tuning during reassembly after the mods.

I ordered the KnifeJoy exclusive with Damasteel. I only learned of this knife yesterday, but was sold instantly. KnifeJoy was all sold out, but I signed up for notification… and got that email less than an hour later. I think I got the only one, because it’s listed as out of stock since I ordered mine. It’s arriving on Tues, and I’m stoked!

@@KnifeNerdery It was kind of crazy. I am on waiting lists for an Umnumzaan, and a few weeks ago I got a notification. Within 5 minutes it was out of stock again. I'd texted my wife to see if I could jump on a Yeager M if a restock notice arrived and was waiting. I only signed up maybe 30 minutes prior. My wife texted OK about 1 second before an email arrived that it was back in stock. I jumped on it, and can't wait til it arrives. Thanks for your videos, BTW. Love the commentary.

Counterpoint: I really dislike Reate's belt satin. The roughness looks cheap. I dislike it so much that I hand-sanded my Giant Mouse Ace Sonoma v2 to get rid of it. Then I etched it in copper sulfate, and then sanded that off, too. The result is a rustic-looking, smooth, slightly gray blade that I am very happy with. It looks great with the green micarta. Still, I have the Yeager-M on my watch list for later anyway, because the design is so freaking cool.
@KnifeNerdery
2 жыл бұрын
Hahah, yeah, _in general_ I'm not a belt satin person -- I like theirs especially on hollow grinds just because of how much it emphasizes the geometry of the grind, I think? I just learned from another commenter that the KinfeJoy versions were stonewashed, so maybe hunt one of those? But since you're DIY enough to modify the finish yourself, the Yeager-M is still a worthy investment!

The last pre-order was a massssive drop -- 1900 total, I think he said -- so I expect you'll be able to find quite a few of these popping up on secondary not long after they come in. Brian said the majority of the last pre-order has already arrived for QC, so that should be very soon!

Jimping was not originally meant to compensate for poor ergonomics. It was meant to improve grip in bloody, sweaty, oily conditions. It's possible on some models it is. I'd say it's an easy design point myself.
@KnifeNerdery
2 жыл бұрын
Certainly! And there are still plenty of knives where jimping is providing a useful, desirable improvement in traction in specific grips. That's not limited to, but especially true for harder use knives or knives that are designed to be used in such adverse conditions. Thoughtful jimping, like the further-down-the-spine jimping Voxnaes often puts on knives he knows will be used in a pinch grip, is usually a great idea. What I see more and more, though, is 1) light-duty EDC knives that just slap aggressive jimping in a place it's not at all needed or useful, seemingly just because "that's where it goes, right?" -- a kind of mindless application of missmatched jimping that isn't helping but _is_ uncomfortable. 2) relatively neutral-grip knives whose handle shapes don't give you any kind of natural positioning or grip, so they then slap sharp, overly aggressive jimping on as the only mechanism of keeping it in place in your hand. Haha, sorry, little rant there isn't it. I'm not outright anti-jimping, for sure. I just see a lot of poorly done, poorly placed, or unnecessary jimping, and _prefer_ designs that don't need it in order to feel secure.
