In addition to the loss of his wife Melinda, Brian was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year. It's possible that he may have been suffering from this condition for years.

I love how happy of an ending the Brian Wilson story has lol, you’d watch this and think he couldn’t get much better and then you realised 4 years later in 2004 he finally finished SMiLE 37 years after he started it legend

Brian's, Dennis's, and Carl's father Murry Wilson should have been imprisoned for life (until he himself died in 1973 at the age of 55) for what he did to his three sons, especially Brian for being the oldest and most genius. Parents really don't realize how much damage they can do their children if they aren't careful. Shame on him/them.

Genius. ABSOLUTELY. This is JUST when he was beginning to heal and get better! In 03, he took Pet Sounds on tour in the UK. It got fucking rave reviews everywhere it went! SMiLE (teenage symphony to God) UK Tour in 2005 was even better than the amazing Pet Sounds Tour! It was a masterpiece show in every way possible! So was the Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE album, as arranged and completed by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks. It would've blown the Beatles' minds in 66 or 67, without a doubt! I would've liked to have had Brian hold it till immediately after Sgt. Pepper had dropped. Would have been incredible.

Melinda can never bring herself to say anything positive about Brian's family. in fact, if it hadn't been for Carl back in 1982, Brian might not be here today. It was Carl, together with his manager, Jerry Schilling, and the Beach Boys manager, Tom Hulett, who brought Dr. Landy back into the picture to save Brian's life. I think they should get some credit for that.

“Awkward physically”? That’s a weird and rude thing to say
@mandatorycreativity
3 жыл бұрын
If anything, the reporter here is being generous in assuming that this awkwardness was only because it was Brian's first solo tour and would likely improve over time. It really didn't. The first few years of Brian's solo touring were nice just to see him out and about again, but at this point I think people know that going to a Brian Wilson concert is really just for the novelty of seeing him in person and hearing the music performed expertly by his band, and aren't expecting much of a performance or presence from Brian himself. I don't think it at all diminishes Brian's accomplishments or the fact that he's putting himself out there, as long as touring is really what Brian wants to do.

@ronfowlermusic

@@mandatorycreativity love your name, and i wonder if that's what we've been getting from Brian since around 1998 or so. No, Brian is not a great live performer. The Beach Boys performed without him for many years, his strength was not on the stage, but in the studio. I'm not surprised at all that Mike still tours with a Beach Boys band - it's exactly what David Leaf predicted would happen many many years ago. What does surprise me is that someone decided that Brian needed to be touring every year. It can't be easy, at his age, and with the physical problems he has. I hope he's been able to take care of himself during the pandemic.

He loves her, she loves him. That’s enough proof and reason, the love and lives of others esp someone who went through heaven and hell and was close to self destructive death and under manipulative professional overstepping and money and songwriting credit stealing, that LOVE was the life saving measure that contributed to the fact that Brian Wilson is alive and living on this planet with us to this day. This was an interview from 2000 or so and a lot since then has changed and grown and peace made etc. but let’s not fast stones onto someone and a relationship we likely only know a mere fraction of its totality. I empathize with your opinion though and understand why it could seem that way but I don’t share that opinion, although difficult and a unique journey their own, it doesn’t feel like my place not to like someone I haven’t met, unless it’s Mike Love (kidding!) ;D Peace and Love to you, sorry for rambling there hehe

@@makebabidotes that's what I see, too. It just seems like Brian's whole life turned into making other people happy, instead of being allowed to do what he wants to do - whatever that might be. If he wants to just sit in the garden all day watching the butterflies, he should be allowed to do that.
