I love this drink. Even when I get back to London, I always go to the local Turkish market to buy is along with lots of Ayran. The best way I can describe it, is it's like a strong beetroot and pickle juice with a kick of spice and salt. It's addicting. Think of it like the Wasabi of Turkey. (obviously not the same taste, but very similar reaction especially first time).

Hi, I am from Adana and I liked the video. Thanks! Coincidently, I was drinking salgam, when you test it on video :) Generally people from Adana love salgam. SO many of my friends from different city of Turkey don't like salgam and ask how do you drink it :) I was high school student when Sabancı the mosque was building. It took long years to finish. I really enjoyed to watch your video about my childhood memory. Thanks.

We therefore have just got back from Stateside for 7 Weeks big 5000 mile road trip. We tried hooking up with TtG in Hants but it did not quite happen. Ironically we landed back at T5 a couple of days before C&M left for NY. Travel is amazing. Anyway I have spent all afternoon Binge watching you guys and your new fun Irish Vanlifers.... so funny in the Hamam. I did this in Istanbul years ago and its so cool. Şalgam isn't heavily fermented, it is actually very similar to yogurt or pickle and extremely healthy drink. It doesn't taste much sour neither when it is fresh, you could find it freshly done in the bazaar. However same as yogurt it gets more and more sour if it stayed long time so i've never liked bottled industrial ones neither. Sabancı central mosque was 50% funded by Sabancı family and 50% by people of Adana. In 80s Adana had pretty large industry and Sabancı family was leading it with dozens of factories. However after the rise of Chinese industry Adana got hit as well same as US etc and most of factories couldn't compete with cheaper Chinese products so they got closed. Today Adana is like Detroit of Turkey while there are some remnants of it's glorious past :)

Hi. Tip for big driving days. We get up the moment we wake up and start driving. We get heat into the van from the engine. About an hour or so later we stop for breakfast and getting washed etc. It then feels like the first drive of the day as you are so fresh. Always do our driving in the morning leaving us time for if things go wrong rather than setting out later in the day but you may have reasons for not doing this. Good luck.

You two eat so much I'm surprised you can get back in the van. Good job Sprinters come with a big sliding door. You think 4.5 hours is a long drive? I did 16.5 hours in a Sprinter last Friday. Up to Scotland with dry ice for drugs and then down to Peterborough and Boston to deliver them. Hotel in Boston, The White Hart, lovely. Boston's an interesting town, would recommend it for a visit when you're back in Blighty. Because I felt too tired and too scruffy for the hotel restaurant my supper was a chicken shish kebab and chips (being posh I swerved the elephant's leg). Very nice, but seeing your menu I feel a bit short-changed. I think it's time for kebab outlets in the UK to expand their range. Happy travels!

Adana looks fab and the food amazing! How are you finding putting up and down the bed each day? We are looking at a new van ourselves and having had a fixed bed in our last van, cannot decide what to do this time. Interested to hear how you’re getting on with it.
@OverlandingSophia
2 жыл бұрын
It’s funny because we actually talked about our bed in this video and I cut the segment out! Probably shouldn’t have done that now! But we absolutely love this set up. We had a fixed bed before and this gives us so much more room. We can host friends for dinner and we have lots of space with the two dogs. It does mean we don’t have a garage space though so if you have bikes, climbing mats etc it might not be ideal. But we’re in such a rhythm with making it up it takes us no more than 2 minutes 💛☺️

Hey guys Love your uploads! Apologies if you’ve posted about this already but I was wondering how you manage Wifi in Turkey and in your van? I have just been to turkey and really struggled with the Wifi -
@OverlandingSophia
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Hollie, thank you so much! We use a company called Connect+ - it's a global SIM that provides internet access in almost every country. It basically means we don't have to find a SIM card in each country we go to. Although we also used TurkCell SIM cards as a back up and they worked amazing xx

Thank you for your response, I shall bare this in mind for my next next visit to Turkey ☺️ Also, I was wondering when you leave Scout and River in the van, how long do you leave them for? I only ask as possible future plans to visit (hopefully in a van - you have inspired me) I would be travelling with my dog & would feel anxious about leaving her, could you give any reassurance or tips about this? Xxx
@OverlandingSophia
2 жыл бұрын
@@hollie4120 We try not to leave them for more than 2 hours... we always make sure we've walked them beforehand so they are tired and won't need to use the toilet when we're out. Give them a chew bone when we leave and usually they settle down for an afternoon nap while we're out! We also have a security camera with a video which we use to check on them and make sure they're okay. We'd highly recommend something like that! Also we make sure all the blinds/curtains are down so they can't see outside and is also just extra security for the van. I think as long as you aren't gone for hours and hours your pup will be fine in the van 😊 💛

Hi Chesca Im From Adana :) Welcome to my city :)First of all, turnip juice is not a common taste for the British..years ago, when I was working in a hotel in Fethiye, I had the British people try it and they would all have the same facial expression :))some made me laugh :) It is not easy to get used to this taste, it is a taste from childhood for us.People of different cities in Turkey can hardly drink Şalgam juice.We don't like the place where you eat kebab.Kebab of smaller businesses is better.There is a festival in Adana in the first week of April.The name of the festival is orange blossom :))You can see the photos on google.you loved this festival :)because you are orange lovers :P

@@OverlandingSophia Yes, in April, the streets of the island smell of orange blossom, it has a very nice smell.And I saw another information in the video, I would like to correct it,The mosque you showed was opened in 1998 the name of the mosque is Sabancı central mosque.It was built by Sakıp Sabancı, one of Turkey's richest businessmen. :))

Turnip juice (Şalgam) is not as bad as it is exaggerated. Only the smell is bothersome sometimes, but it tastes good and is very healthy. But there are many people in Turkey who can't drink it and don't like it. For example, I like it very much, but my wife definitely does not drink. I advise you to drink while drunk. Sobers up instantly. :)

There is a spread called marmite in the UK which is very unique! Some people LOVE it, and others absolutely hate it. It has a slogan “love it or hate it” I think Salgam might be Turkeys version of this!
