Hooray Hockey!!! Incidentally, each time Matthew Tkachuk scores, they show a guy in the stands reacting and giving high fives to people. He's bald, a little pudgy, and super happy. That guy is his father, Keith Tkachuck, who was a legendary power forward in the 90s. It would be cool if you did a review of some of his best plays.

2:45 - Not quite. Hockey vernacular tends to leave out the goaltender when counting skaters. Standard play is called 5 on 5, a normal power play is called 5 on 4, a two-man advantage is called 5 on 3, and this case where one team has two in the box and the other one is called 4 on 3. Then there's the rare time when both teams have 2 or more players in the box which gives you a 3 on 3 (teams can be reduced to no more than 3 skaters plus a goalie). NHL's overtime during the regular season is actually 3 on 3 as well. (Side side note, regular season overtime is just one 5-minute period of sudden death played 3 on 3. If no one scores there, the game goes to a 3 round minimum shootout with some funky rules that aren't too important because the broadcasters usually explain them but I will point out that penalties (penalty shots as they're called in hockey) are taken with the puck placed at the center dot and the attacker gets to carry the puck from there breakaway style before shooting. Penalty shots can also be awarded in the run of play but are pretty rare and usually only happen if someone is illegally taken down on a breakaway or some other situation where a penalty occurs during a goal scoring opportunity.) 6:03 - Goaltender or goalie Nick. NOT keeper. 😉 [Edit: Damo got there later.] 10:10 - Yes. All hockey overtimes are sudden death, first goal wins (like a golden goal). The history made was this was the first ever Stanley Cup Finals game win for the Panthers. They started in 1993 and made the Finals once before in 1996 but got swept by the Colorado Avalanche.

For the two of you, this is really hard for Boston fans. Boston fired their coach, Bruce Cassidy, after they were eliminated in the first round last year. He now coaches Vegas. Meanwhile, Florida pulled off the biggest upset I can remember in a long time. Boston won the most games in NHL history this year while Florida snuck in as a wildcard on the last day. They got paired together in seeding. Boston had a 3-1 lead in the series and needed just one more win to move on, but the Panthers tied the series and forced Game 7 in Boston. They tied the game with a minute left to force OT and then won. It was the biggest shock we Bruins fans have had since Chicago shocked us in 2013, where they scored two times in 17 seconds to win the trophy. Chicago won it all three times in six years (2010, 2013, 2015).

I found the St. Louis Blues beating the B's in the 2019 Cup Final to be more shocking, seeing that the B's were favored in that series. At the end of the day there, while the B's were better in the Special Teams Department, the Blues were better in the most important aspect, and that was in even strength play. As for 2013, The Blackhawks were in the middle of their dominant run of the 1st half of the 2010's, won the Presidents' Cup during the strike shortened 2013 Season, and were favored over the B's. That was just great teams finding a way to win in the end. I doubted they wanted to go back home for a Game 7, where ANYTHING can happen. As I mentioned many times, don't judge the Panthers on what their regular season record said, they are a much better team despite that they had alot of adversity throughout the regular season, and just got hot at the right time.
@juliansousa3781
Жыл бұрын
@@b1galbos89 the shock was less that Chicago won it all (after all, they did win the President's Trophy) and more that they scored 2x in such rapid succession. We were so close to Game 7 and suddenly were out. Just like Toronto was 12 minutes from moving on in the first round and had a 2 goal lead with under 1:30 left and lost in OT

10:13 Hockey overtime is indeed "next goal wins", "Sudden Victory", "Sudden Death" whatever you want to call it. In the stanley cup playoffs they just play 20 minute periods until someone scores a goal. In the regular season, they only play 5 minutes of overtime with one less skater per side (4v4 situations usually yield more goals). After the 5 minute period they have a shootout where they take turns doing penalty shots.

Just for your enjoyment and usage, when you say “the roof of the net” you can replace that with “top shelf” to add some hockey insider vibes. Doesn’t mean the exact same thing (just means high up in the net, doesn’t specify that it hits the overhanging portion) but it’s a good term to know

One thing they didn't show was that both Tkachuk and Montour were briefly out of the game for, what I assume were, minor injuries. Hockey overtimes in the playoffs are different than the regular season. In the playoffs its sudden death - which means games can go on for a very long time. I believe the record is 5 OT periods which basically means they played 2 and 2/3 games. In the regular season its a quick 5 minute, 3 on 3 sudden death period followed by a penalty shootout. Used to be 4 on 4 for 5 minutes but the league made the switch a few years back to get more OT goals

If you want to react to the most saves in a playoff game, look up the game 7 highlights from the Flames-Stars series last season, Jake Oettinger stopped 64/66 shots, the 2nd most in a playoff game (or at least game 7) of all time, it was widely considered one of the best playoff series by a goaltender in history

Maybe not a record, but the Panthers are 7 wins 0 losses in overtime this year, which is insane. I could not track it down definitively on google, but it appears the Montreal Canadiens went 10 and 0 in OT in 1993, which is way beyond insane.

In Playoff Hockey, first goal wins, multiple periods if needed. In the Regular Season, there is a five minute, four on four OT, first goal wins. If no one scores there is a shoot out, like in Soccer. The Panthers are now 7-0 in Overtime games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season.

It's 3-on-3 OT in the regular season now. It was 4-on-4 from 1999-2015, but they changed it to 3-on 3-before the 2015-2016 season in order to decrease the number of games ending in the Shootout.
