It's the end of July 2021 and i'm at Southport. We take a ride on ex British Rail Thameslink class 319 EMU, now converted to a 769 with the addition of a diesel engine to the unit. It seems very strange to be on one of these trains away from wires or the 3rd rail. They are still powered by the electric traction motors as before but the diesel engine provides the electricity similar to a diesel locomotive. You can hear on the video that the diesel is working hard without a great deal of acceleration, according to the driver i spoke to, they are a bit lacking in power on diesel mode but are great on 25Kv! If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!
