This movie broke me because you just know they wont be togheter at the end. Their love wasnt possible and even Ennis denied it sometimes. The sad thing is that so many love stories about non-straight couples still have these sad, heatbreaking endings. I think people deserve the chance to imagine they deserve and they can have happy lifes. Happy endings. And then movies like Brokeback can still be there for us to remember how hard things were and how far we got

One of the most beautiful movies ever made. The writing, the acting, the cinematography are unsurpassed. The honest viewer can feel deeply for all the characters. The look on Michelle Williams' face when she sees her husband kissing a man is Oscar worthy. Heath Ledger would have been a legend had he lived. Jake Gillenhall was phenomenal in his recklessness and abandon and even Randy Quaid in his small part was terrific. The director and editor should always be studied. The star of the film is the vastness and beauty of the landscape, coupled with the soundtrack, evoking the magnitude of the universe and our place in it. I can't say enough.
This is delicious torture to me. A tragic lovestory has never been able to captivate me like this. Not once. Whenever I think about Brokeback Mountain, not only does it hurt emotionally, but physically it hurts too. My throat constricts, I have trouble breathing and tears which I did not know were there well up. It's like a huge chunk of emotion is surfacing from the pit of my stomach and forcing itself through my throat. Never would I have imagined that a fictional story could bewitch me like this, make me feel such strong emotions. Beautiful scenery, amazing acting and a heartwrenching plot that has touched millions around the world. The English vocabulary is too limited to express accurately what is going through me right now. It's painful but beautiful and I can't help but deliciously torture myself time and time again when I listen to this song. It's like I feel the pain Enis and Jack felt, the mark of a true masterpiece. It makes me think of the people who are going through similar heartbreaks. It's terrible that there is still so much hate towards people who aren't heterosexual. Much love and strength to anyone in a similar position. I look forward to the day that we can all be treated as equals. Jack, I swear...

For the first time last night, I watched this film. Societal attitudes towards homosexuality have changed for better since the 1960s, but unfortunately there’s much ground to be covered. To me, and as a heterosexual male, this is one of the greatest love stories ever put to the screen. The tragedy of Ennis and Jack is very much the untold stories of many couples who have had to live a lie. This love story does not inflate you with unrealistic expectations about love, but instead gives you a dose of reality. Regardless of orientation, love is still love. What a film.

Kind of in the same situation. Me and this guy have feelings for each other but there are a lot of difficult circumstances to overcome. I am in the military and stationed overseas and he is back in the states. We recently had a talk and it was a lot like Jack and Ennis' conversation. Trust me "I wish I knew how to quit" this guy but I can't just wish away all my feelings. All of that coupled with the fact that our families and friends would not be able to accept our decision... well it makes things difficult to be honest. Who knows maybe one day we will figure it out or idk.. Maybe we will end up like Jack and Ennis did.

I rewatched this movie last week (August 2021), it still brings pain to the heart. Here's a poem I wrote, as a tribute to Heath and Jake, thanking them for their wonderful performance in this movie. And to Jack and Ennis, I love you both. Here's the poem inspired by the love you had for each other. Forever Carved in my heart, your name; Sealed in my kiss, your sigh; Locked in my soul, your desire. Living in my mind, your thoughts; Craving in my blood, your fulfilment; Trickling in my tears, your ecstasy. Stroll with me, in serene Brokeback Mountain; Sail with me, through tempestuous seas; Dance with me, in between rhythms; Shudder with me, in between breaths. Bare for me, your body and soul; Be with me, forever. Not today, not tomorrow. But every hour, every minute, Not a second less, not a second less. That's forever to me, not a second less. (in loving memory of Heath Ledger) Written by Meigyn Tay.

November 8, 2020.. 3:23 am, day of sunday. I really don't know if I will ever get over with this movie. Remembering and even just hearing the sound/music that is in this movie can't even take my stomach, my chest, my eyes, my tears, my mind, my emotional, my physical body as lighter as I want it to take it because of the heaviness of this masterpiece. And I wonder, why this video makes me feel everything about the movie, now realizing that this is not just a "music" "instrumental"... This is a Story. Its been 12 years, I know and we know that you are already okay there, Heath. Rest in eternal peace. Jack, I swear.

I've just watched the film yesterday and it seems to have a bigger impact on me than expected. I knew it had no happy ending so I actually wanted to avoid watching it however I did so and now I must say that its a masterpiece. Even tho I was aware about the ending I still hoped that they will actually make it together. After having googled for more details I was kinda indignant that the film faced so much critic only for it portraying homosexual love. An indication that it was more than the right time to make it. I'm glad that I've never experienced homophobia in my life and that I can decide on my own how I want to live my life, but I think we still have do more steps. So many people have faced hate in history, the poor, the blacks, religious people, homosexual... I think nearly every person would face hate somewhere. I'm not a big Christian but I do believe that it should be our mission to create a heaven on earth (rather than landing there in the afterlife) so that everyone gets the chance to be happy. Because nothing is unnatural. Everything that is possible is natural.

It’s deeply tragic that even in death, Jack still didn’t find freedom in a physical sense- his request for his ashes to be scattered at Brokeback Mountain were ignored by his parents, who almost maliciously put him in a family plot instead. It makes the experience of listening to this beautiful song even more depressing, especially with this particular video with the sweeping backdrop of a big, vast mountain, adding to the vision of Brokeback Mountain being symbolic of something mystical...it’s Heaven for Jack and Ennis- the only place they could truly be themselves and find genuine happiness in life- with each other and only each other, free from the judgement of others, the cruelty of the world, and the harsh realities of life. I hope when Ennis eventually passed away, they were reunited in the afterlife at Brokeback Mountain. I hope they found each other again...

Annie Proulx said that " It is my feeling that a story is not finished until it is read, and that the reader finishes it through his or her life experience, prejudices, worldview and thoughts." So yes, their forever-reunion in the Elysian Mountains is the end if that's what you, the reader, want it to be.

Whaaaaaaaaaat? Is that the reason why he was put in the family plot? I thought Jack's father finally accepted him after his death and that is why the ashes were put in the family plot, as a symbolic representation of that acceptance 😮

when i hear this song, i don't think of the controversy. i don't think of the scenes. i don't think of how offensive it was to a lot of people. i don't even think about cattle-herders, cowboys, ranchers, or rodeos. i think immediately of heath ledger. in that particular case, not knowing how little time left he had, he took on a role that would open eyes. had it been jake to leave us, we would remember him for his role in the movie. when i hear this song, i hear silent bravery.

I try to avoid this soundtrack, because everytime I come back to this.. i cant help but cry. I can't hold back my tears. The movie in itself has left an unexplainable scar and i feel nothing can fix it. It hits you hard, leaves you gasping for breath. You're crying for a fictional character, you tell yourself. So much progress has been made within the past 10-15 years. It is perhaps the first time in history that people have been able to love so freely and openly, and it shatters my heart to think of the millions of gay people who lived before this era, in times more terrible and hostile. So much love that never came into fruition, so much love that was lost at the hands of unacceptance. And my heart goes out to all who still live in unaccepting, dangerous environments around the world, whether the threat is from the government, your community, or your own family. You are loved and valued, and we will never stop fighting for your freedom to love who you love

I tried to help a homeless person, a vet in a wheelchair, get shelter ... this song was always in my mind. My and our taxi driver - I paid for a taxi and we drove and stopped at places for him to stay, that "said" he could stay - I called them before we got there - only for them to say "no", you gotta call and get in a queue....What! I got someone here that needs you and your help!!! I didn't know him, he wasn't my friend - he was a person that deserved consideration. I considered him, and our taxi driver: I paid for the drive all around town to try get him a place to stay/shelter, left him in front of a community agency he knows. I feel like shite. This song grounds me ... giving, giving, giving and never getting anything back. Alas, Brokeback Mountain Chad
