Thank you for this. Are there different rims depending if is rear or front wheel? Also if is 3 or 6 speeds? Or is it all the same? Thank you!

Hi, yes there are different rims depending on whether it’s it’s front or rear and the number of gears. Any half decent supplier should be able to ensure you get the correct one.

Well done on the full wheel build 👍 You mentioned that the front rim has a red dot and the rear rim has a blue, but what is the difference between them, most rims are not specific for front or rear?
@terrysallbikes

I’m not sure if it depends how many gears the bike has, but on mine there are more spikes on the rear wheel than the front.

@@terrysallbikes that's odd, as far as I know all standard Brompton versions use hubs with 28 spoke holes, unless there are some historical versions that were different.

Hi, there’s no maintenance necessary with the Son hub, also I’m very happy with the performance, I can’t comment on other brands as this is my first dynamo

A split in the wheel rim my God how long have you been using that wheel? Was that back in 1975? I have always thought it would be the break blocks that would erode not the wheel rim.

All wheels wear eventually with rim brakes, smaller wheels wear faster unfortunately

How many miles do you have on the rim?
@terrysallbikes

I’ don’t know! Brompton recommend you change the rim after 4000 miles, however that’s going to to vary massively depending on the kind of riding you do. I ride lots of hills carrying my touring gear, that means lots of hard breaking, rims don’t last so long. If you’re riding predominantly on the the flat with less hard breaking you could expect to get more out of them.
