Brother Giles,CFX was a mentor of Hiram Williams when Hiram and his brother John had to stay at the St. Joseph's school for boys in Bardstown, KY. Brother Giles played the fiddle and guitar at local dances and was a source of many of the tunes that the brothers used in their act in later years.
This is a tune he played at those dances. Hiram could never remember the name of this tune (he was often very drunk when asked) so he just called it Brother Gile's Dance Tune.
The tune is played in Double D tuning and is primarily a fiddle tune. There is a rumor that this tune, among others, was recorded at St. Joe's in the early part of the 20th century and may be in the archives of the Xaverian order, perhaps in Louisville where they still have a high school. I will continue to research this.
