My God many thanks for not going through the process of how to boil and peel eggs properly. That's one of the first things I learned to do kitchen wise way before I ever needed to shave. About the same time I learned to make Jello properly and make biscuits, etc. etc. The basic stuff every person should know before they grow up

Thanks, I'm going to try this. Just curious, can you fill the jar completely with eggs? PS. I liked the grill being crusty, it gave a great look to the eggs.
@outdoorindoortexan
3 жыл бұрын
Haha thanks, I’ve been using it so much lately the grates have a healthy seasoning on them from previous cooks. You can fill it all the way, I just try to keep all eggs fully under the vinegar, so they get a good soak of flavor. Thanks for watching!

Hey from Ennis! Are those duck eggs? The yolks look really big. Anyway, doesn't the hour on the smoker make the eggs rubbery?
@outdoorindoortexan
3 жыл бұрын
Howdy! No they’re regular ol chicken eggs. The smoke hasn’t rubbered up any batches in our house, but I’ve definitely run across that texture with other pickled eggs in the past. I’m not sure if it’s a matter of temperature while smoking, how they were boiled, or what. It could possibly be sitting too long in the brine that brings out that texture. We usually empty a finished jar within the week. Thanks for watching and let me know how yours turn out!
@Lifeofachihuahua

Can the brine be reused like for a batch of shrimps, then vegetables and so on ?
@outdoorindoortexan
3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried to re-use it, so I’m honestly not sure. I would assume you could use it one more time but each use soaks the spices into whatever is sitting in the brine so it may alter the flavor after a couple uses.

I have never heard of pickling eggs before! Other than eating them as a snack or on a cheese board are there other ways you enjoy this?
@outdoorindoortexan
4 жыл бұрын
They're also a addition to egg salads, chicken salads, tuna salads, etc.. You can ultimately swap these anywhere a recipe calls for hard boiled eggs. If you've never had a boiled egg, they are essentially a boiled egg, with hints of vinegar and herbs. Some eggs do turn slightly rubbery if they sit in the jar for too long, so if you're a texture person, be careful about that.

What kind/brand of pickling spice do you use? I tried this recipe but wasn't a big fan of the pickling spice mix I used. Thanks!!
@outdoorindoortexan
3 жыл бұрын
I typically use Ball (same brand as the mason jars) pickling spice, but you can also tweak it by adding/subtracting spices you like and dislike. The cloves in a lot of those mixtures come off too strong for people. Thanks so much for watching!

Weirdly another person commented that concern but left a lengthy helpful comment, which is what my second reply was for, but he later deleted it. Long story short, yup bad idea to use toothpicks. Also the bigger thing to avoid is leaving these at room temperature for long periods of time. Straight to the fridge! Thanks for swinging by.
