I always knew Buck and Dwight were close friends but had no idea how close until I watched this video. Dwight is so sincere and sings this beautiful song with with such beauty and simplicity. Country Music is so important to America and American culture. Everytime someone tries to argue that point with me I point to things like this to back up my words... Buck dies and they air his funeral live interupting regular programming. When Tammy Wynette died they aired her funeral on CNN all day long. When Johnny Cash passed away you couldn't turn to any station without hearing about it. It really speaks volumes as to how much thier music and their legacy has meant to so many! R.I.P. Buck!

My Dad's been singing at funerals for years, & some of the hardest ones he's ever had to do were the ones who were friends & acquaintainces of his that he had known for a long time. I've sang back-up with him, & watching him cry used to make me well up too, my throat would close up & I'd have a hard time singing as well. Some of my earliest memories were of watching Hee Haw over at my grandparents house while my Dad was out singing at events, & I was really saddened to hear of Buck's passing that year early in 2006. Buck was one of those people who always used to cheer me up, because he constantly had a smile on his face, laughing & joking along with Grandpa Jones, Roy, & the rest of the gang.

Jesseca Kirk no; thank you; needed. Actually THANK YOU for being a citizen and paying taxes and just being an American. Soldiers today are there today seeking employment or educational benefits; that's it. IN THE 70's I enlisted to kill people in other lands, blow up what they called homes and cultures for thousands of years. Let's be real when we give our thanks and real, when accepting thanks. I did nothing to receive your thanks. I was a paid dim wit to follow orders and that's what I did. I enlisted to do what MY COUNTRY asked; as per KFK's speech. Had I known better; I would have told them shove it like so few actually did. it's patriotic to stand up for what is right; not murder innocent people because an administration point his or their finger in any direction and say; KILL, DESTROY and then convince the public to say thank you. I have studied every war just to see which one was justified; not a damn single one was justified. Not the millions of lives taken for no benefit and the only benefits were seen by the war profiteers; only. Thank a fellow citizen when they deserve it. BECAUSE NO; OR VERY FEW SOLDIERS LIVING TODAY HAS EARNED YOUR THANK YOU. From a Vet. I say accepting the public's thank you; is the exact same thing as STOLEN VALOR. It's also Political brainwashing of the masses. Just something to ponder. I though long and hard on this subject. All I expected in return was for politicians to carry out the duties which was to preserve the CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC that we are. Not a Democracy as they say every chance they get.

Buck Owens is incredibly underrated and from what I understand incredibly smart. He mixed his records using small am speakers so he could get the sound he wanted on the radio. Therefore when his song came on the sound (the Bakersfield sound) was quite different from the other artists and really stood out. And Don Rich was a genius.

AM radio was king in the sixties and it was one channel (mono) The bass guitar had a tendency to "rumble" all over a song. Buck decided to step down the bass a couple notches so it would not take up so much of the VU meter and a song. It sounded cleaner and fresh.

Christmas morning here and I'm feeling bad from the drinking I did last night..and I find this for the first time and Dwight is causing me to really miss my dad with this beautiful song and voice..and the way he speaks at the end with his emotion showing cause my tears to well up..its not even 10am and I'm thinking about the bottle of whisky not far from me..yea I guess Christmas will never be the same without my dad..I only knew Buck from watching him on Hee Haw with my dad..and I don't know music about Dwight but this song revealed to me what a true talent he is.
