My local Rural King home and farm store had one of those chest rig bandolier deals but the pouches seemed a little larger but has same type latches on it. It was priced at $17. I think someone returned it to the store after purchasing from their online site. The don't carry milsurp in store but they do on their website. Pretty reasonable prices and quality stuff. If you don't have a Rural King check their website out.

I have one, and if you finesse it you can fit 3 a piece, but 300 rounds on your chest is rather heavy, I keep 2 in 8 of them for 160 rounds, one other pouch holds 2 pistol mags, and the last one has a first aid kit.

As someone who can remember when you could get a serviceable SKS for a hunnert bucks, I don't think the currently priced SKSs are a good choice for a budget SHTF gun. I think a decent entry-level AR is better.

Mags for the AR will balloon the price, not to mention most AR's do not come with a rear sight. SKS is still the cheapest and most effective option.

I have that exact bandolier for mine. I would say stay away from those cheap stripper clips. My experience with them was they drop rounds like crazy and have a huge amount of wobble with the rounds. Back in the 90’s the SKS was an excellent low cost option. The current SKS prices ($399) for a cosmoline soaked Chicom are just 25 -50 dollars cheaper than a Palmetto State Armory AR15. I’d spend the extra 25 dollars for a more modern option with parts commonality and availability. That said, my $89 dollar Chinese SKS from 1992 is NOT for sale. With stripper clips and a Chinese sports bra bandolier I would not feel undergunned.

I believe a true shtf sks would be adding the kit to make it accept ak mags 👍 not worry about 10 round stripper clips that may cause finger wounds in the field, harder to load under an intense situation, and in 3 mags you could hold about the same ammo in a fanny pack 🤣 not a Seinfeld Bro🤣🤣
@Nattleby

The mags for SKS are not reliable and jam, are an awkward shape to carry due to the “duck bill” hard to get in and out, and if you are trained with your stripper clips you can feed it pretty fast. Permanently modification to make it accept real AK mags Is a pretty complex job, and even the ones designed to take mags like the Chinese SKS D ( I think) doesn’t work very well.
