2008 is also the year Buell Came out with a Modern Liquid cooled Engine .. the Halicon 1125 cc I think it was 148 HP Liquid cooled V-twin 4 valve heads 6 speed transmission .. made by Rotax in Austria to Beull's designs.. then Harley Davidson spent $116 million to shut down the new Buell Factory in Jan 2009. They build more new bikes after this out of extra parts.. Then Eric Buell started a new Company EBR .. Expensive bikes but competitive at the race Track off from the show room floor. Now a couple of years ago an Investor and Liquidator bought the rest of Buell from Harley Davidson and EBR and moved to Grand Rapids MIchigan 60 miles from where I live.. You can buy a new Buell Sport Bike today .. an off road dirt Bike 1190 CC V-twin 185 HP .. Also they offer a Sports Adventure Touring Bike and in 2024 are supposed to have a Hot Rod Cruiser 450 Pounds and 185 HP that looks like a Harley FXR .. of which Eric Buell designed the chassis for Harley and has a reputation of being one of the better handling Harley's

Pretty rare bikes, interesting concept, huge shame that HD kicked Buell to the curb instead of giving them proper factory support. I have an 00 X1 Lightning as a project bike, the FI is pretty easy to tune if you know what you're doing, but lots of folks prefer the carbureted models. Hard to describe how it feels riding it, like it's not *that* fast but it's quick and handles very well. This is what the Sportster *should* have been.

I had a rear wheel bearing fail on my 2008 Buell. Turns out there are two small wheel bearings. Buell Upgraded to 3 larger wheel bearings. I was able to find a New Old Stock wheel with the bearings axle and correct axle spacers to convert it to the bigger wheel bearings. Most of the parts that make the Buell Thunderstorm engine more powerful are available in the Harley Davidson Screaming Eagle Parts Book. Such as the Thunderstorm heads Camshaft and higher compression ration piston ect. Since the Evolution engine "Sportster" engine does not have a divorced Transmission like the bigger newer HD models , I had no idea that Baker made a 6 speed Transmission for it . The Redline for my bike is 7,000 RPM's but I got faster times at the Drag strip shifting at 6,000 RPM's 12.77 @ 107 MPH.. I plan to put a Flex Fuel Converter on my bike in the Spring. This can give it up to 10% more power running it on E-85 Ethanol gasoline mix.. Here in the USA you can buy a low milage Buell for a very reasonable price. Parts can be hard to get for the Buell's. There is a Place in the Netherlands that specializes in Buell parts as are about 3 Harley Dealers in the USA

@@ihateemael I wrote you 4 paragraphs the other day but I was in yoootooob jail and was deleted. My 2008 Buell Ulysess blew the fan fuse , it's only 10 amps. I was told in forums and by some one who sells replacement fans that they all go bad. I took the tail section of my frame off to get the fan out. Hooked it to a battery and it ran fine.. the fan turns freely with my finger. The bearings have not dried out. I plan to put it all back together maybe install a light and a light to tell me when it's on , on the dash. In the shop manual, I read that the Fan is controlled by the ECU .. A ground it completed to turn the fan on. For the 2008 Model .. there are two temp settings one when the bike is running and one when the key is shut off. My guess is they want to keep the frame cool so the gas does not boil and vaper lock the fueling system. I always plug my bike into a battery tender after every ride so the battery stays fully charged. The starter motor stalls out when the engine is hot. This will burn up a starter motor. I replaced the 2 year old battery that had not been kept charged by the previous owner with a Hybrid battery rated at 350 amps the stock battery is 200 amps.. If you are interested in a 350 Amp Battery , I can send you a link. The starter motor does not stall now.. This 350 Amp battery is a lot lighter but not as light as a full lithium battery is..

@@mikeskidmore6754 hi Mike sounds like you have it sussed. I've had mine since about 8000 kms . The fan screams when its on hi and just loud on low speed, you won't need a light on your dash! Mine has always been like that. . fan on hi if overheating in traffic or immediately after hot engine off for a minute then low for a further several minutes. I think there's a temp sensor in the rear cylinder head which is monitored by the cpu. If I remember correctly ecmspy could modify the fan temps and fan-on-time but I never bothered. Best thing I found, after engine switch off, fan runs on high, wait till it switches to low then turn ignition on again for a few secs then off. Fan will switch off, saves battery when you're out. I'm in Brisbane AU it gets stinkin hot and humid here, Buells don't like it. But i've learned that my Firebolt is the best for riding in the mountains. any questions sing out, cheers from Richard. ps: almost forgot, re battery. I went up 2 sizes, biggest that will fit under the seat. But you need one with big brass terminal posts so you can tighten the car sized battery cables. They loosen with all the vibration so check if they're tight every month.

That air cooled engine roasts your balls on Warm days .. but On a Cold Day there is no heat at all. I live in Michigan USA.. I ride with a heated vest and use the heated Grips some months.. My 350 amp battery is smaller and lighter than the original 200 Amp Battery .. Again just hook up a battery maintainer after every ride. If I am done riding the bike for the day or at least an hour. A cut off switch would be nice. The first time I figured out that the bike even had a hidden fan .. I was at a gas station and could barley hear a fan .. What year is it? By 2008 or So Buell had made many improvements to the Sportster 1203 cc engine. Fuel Injection, Oil Cooler, Air ducts to cool the rear cylinder. A Thermostatically controlled cooling fan.. Lighter Crankshaft .. Different heads with better porting .. Fuel Injection , Higher compression 10.5 to 1 ,, Dual shift rails ect.. Night and day better than the Sportster engine. and way better and lighter chassis and handling. I see now that's an older on with a Carburetor on the side .. the newer ones have a Single barrel down draft Fuel Injection .. an Aluminum frame with gas in the frame and oil in the swing arm .. Eric Buell did everything he could to make a nice sports bike but they still have that super Heavy Air cooled engine that roasts your balls on warm days. Not a Problem for @tomboy_a_bit I suppose. Fibreglass ( or not metal petrol tanks) were a bit of an issue in the UK….not sure if it was this model. I had a xbr12 buell with the giddy up kit. It was fuel injection, which wasn’t set up very well from factory, it cut out on roundabouts and suddenly left you as a bollard in a busy rush hour. A friend had an earlier buell, he got hit at a T junction, the bike slid on its side up against the car, it exploded, the two elderly car drivers got killed, burned alive. He ended up getting a couple of years in prison for whatever trumped up charges the solicitors came up with., not sure if it was manslaughter, but something along those lines
