My dream car. I purchased one in 2019. I kept it stock for a year. With slight bolt-ons i have a 500hp 600tq monster. I loved it so much i went a purchased a GMC typhoon a year later.

That I didn't know! Thanks for checking out my little channel! Not as big as GreenHawks...But you learn not to need solid gold toilet seats over here, and butler service is overrated anyway. I never miss a Greenhawk vid!

Nice! I really wanted an '86 Grand National.... sadly I was, at the time, just a lowly Leading Seaman in Her Majesty's Canadian Navy and my pay packet couldn't support such a purchase. Oh well... it sure was nice to dream while I drove my '75 Grand Prix.... which did have a 455-4V with aftermarket headers and low restriction dual exhaust that I installed...so... not too damn shabby... but I loved the Grand National! What a machine ❤

Yes...It was quite the car considering what alot was considered fast in the 80s. Bet that Grand Prix was fun. Good for Pontiac trying to buck the HP trends as long as possible then.

@@autochatter The Grand Prix was beaucoup fun! And... yeah.. still a 455-4V available in '75. As for the power.... meh... decent and torquey as hell - but sock hp was 200 ish? Thing is... get a free flow exhaust on that bad boy and tweak various bits... boom! 250 net... good times 😁

I have built both the Revell/Monogram 1/24 scale 87 Grand National and GNX Model kits.. Both came out quite nicely I think...

$16,700 was a pretty penny back in ’87. It’d be nice to own one of these. Never saw one in person. 9:37 Didn’t know that about the Countach, that’s interesting. Yeah the Star Wars jokes were great! Haha Thanks for the hard work and dedication you put into these documentaries.

You have never seen a GN in person? You don't exactly see them parked in front of a Publix nowadays, but I see them from time to time. The Cars and Coffee here is big...Theres often a few there.Saw a white Lexus LFA at work last week....Thats rare! Thanks for the props and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Your last vid on the 80 to 82 Thunderbird was great, so anyone reading this check out his channel!

@@autochatter thanks for the shoutout. And yeah never saw a GN in person. To be quite frank, I probably only saw 1 or 2 G-body Regals ever. At least in the Santa Rosa county, FL area. Guess it depends on location. An LFA? Now that’d definitely be cool to see.

@Antique TAGS Yeah that LFA makes the 4th one I've ever laid eyes on in the wild. The way that engine sounds is amazing and the owner wasn't scared to explore the rev range when he left LOL. I've seen so many G body Regals. My hometown in NC probably still has several putting around.

When this was new, almost everyone had given up on the thought of ever seeing a really fast car from Detroit again. The cast-iron V8's were slugs, even the few remaining big-blocks, and Buick was a company who made nice upscale but unexciting stylish cars. And then you started seeing these turbo Buicks on the street, doing burnouts and racing where they handily beat all the Camaros, Firebirds, Vettes, and Mustangs made in the previous decade. Everyone wanted to see under the hood where this stubby little V6 sat and this was where many people saw their first turbo in-person. The Buick dealers here sold all they could get as soon as they came in; the biggest dealer kept one GN in the main showroom window- his personal car which was not for sale and which stayed locked up so all you could do was look in from the outside and try not to drool. This pattern was to become America's new "Muscle car" with a turbo v6 instead of a v8, an automatic trans becoming more popular than a 4-speed, a slightly understated but clean visual appearance, and the beginning of a new aftermarket parts approach too where you often improved stock parts instead of replacing them. This car put the 3.8L GM engine on the map, which is one of the best engines ever built. It was the future when we really needed that, and it didn't disappoint.

My goodness what a excellent comment! What makes it sad to me is Buick captured that niche market....and for 1988 we get a rebadged Chevy Lumina to replace it.

not all was lost with the FWD regal, they sucked as first but then offered the supercharged 3800 regal GS, which can be made to be quite fast with proper mods
