And may I add, don't go so heavy. A lot of people believe that you can go heavy with these because of the short range of motion but really it's one of those movements where it's based on "feel." You have to really focus on the squeeze and stretch
@idano0112
10 ай бұрын
Quite the opposite, actually. Using heavy weights and cheating like with Power Shrugs will build significantly more mass than regular shrugs. Hopefully you haven’t done too much damage to people that were shrugging properly, would be a shame for them.

Thanks Jay!! I appreciate you, man!! I followed so much of meadows videos and still do. I thank you for helping explain things clearly. I will try incorporating more dumbell work. I know Dorian talks a lot about lifting up and back to target more of the traps. I think it’s much easier to do that with the dumbbells too. Not to roll, but to lift diagonally up and back in one tight motion. ❤

@older than you Cali The key word is CAN. Generally, shoulder impingement occurs when you internally rotate the shoulder. Follow Jay's advice. Shrugs are safer for building traps.
@erikcronrath3858
Жыл бұрын
The upper trapezius is responsible for pure scapular elevation. The reason you might feel better with a shoulder roll is because you will also contract the middle trapezius by bringing the scapulae together. It doesn’t help make the upper trapezius contraction stronger or contribute to the force of the scapular elevation. It just feels like a larger contraction. Not necessary, rather a personal preference. I work as a doctor of physical therapy and I am constantly trying to get people to stop overusing their upper trapezius. It can lead to a lot of posterior neck pain and disrupted biomechanics of overhead reaching/lifting for the gen pop.
