Just finding this now. what a great system. I have 3 Ender 3 Pro's mainly because I wanted to be able to do prints when I was home vs. not. I've also discovered that pausing a print and returning to start it always leaves them with what seems like a missing layer. Your design is great for peace of mind to keep it running almost 24/7 vs. trying to fit time in. Great work. thank you.

Love your setup and the hard work you've put into it, my one concern, especially if an electrical fire, is by blowing air in you have the opposite affect on the fire and actually super fuel the flames.

Are you sure that's gonna work for all kinds of fires? I know electrical fires can be particularly persistent. Shouldn't pushing more air in give it more oxygen?
@007craft

I thought about this. The frame of the printer is made of aluminum and I have sheet metal on the bottom. If for some reason the fan can't put out an electronics fire on the printers board (located on the bottom, and inside the frame), it would still keep any flames from catching the wood enclosure and prevent anything else from catching fire until the concealed electronics fire burns itself out. For a printhead fire (more likely), I would wager there's no way the fire would even survive the air vortex the fan creates, and if it somehow does, the flame would be too small to spread to anything else

Cool idea. My concern is that this is way more complicated than just using that firetube which relies on no electronic components or any peripheral triggers. Its method of extinguishing a fire is also properly tested and effective. I'm sure the method you proposed would work most of the time but for me most of the time would not be good enough😅 it's literally fanning flames. At the end of the day, I see fireproofing 3d printers as a way to mitigate against catastrophic loss of life and property. Losing the printer is the least of my concerns. That being said, good on you for coming up with this solution. Just be careful. Source: Someone with firefighting experience
@007craft

A firetube needs to detect flame for it to burst and sprays out a liquid/powder onto the fire. This means your 3d printer enclosure and printer would most likely be burnt junk by the time the fire goes out. My method detects fire much faster as all it needs is smoke, so you can put out the fire before it destroys anything. If your concern is that my method is not good enough ALL the time, then you could combine it with a firetube, so if the fan fails, you have a backup solution. Personally I'm sticking to the fan only tho for cost reasons, and I trust my system and believe it to be better than NO system.

That fire suppression system has similar workings to a melt furnace. Feed it lots of oxygen.. im sure that will be successful at "suppressing" fire. 🤞🏼
@007craft
Ай бұрын
While fires need oxygen, it also needs heat. You cant compare a melt furnace to the start of a small wood/plastic fire because the heat difference is massive. The reason this suppression system works is because it kicks in right away and blows the heated gas away from the fuel source, preventing ignition BEFORE it gets too hot. The start of the fire is less than 200°C. A melt furnace would be burning at 1200°C+. Its like trying to blow out a candle v.s. trying to blow out a campfire. If this suppression system kicked in a few minutes later, after the fire got hot enough, THEN it would fuel it, rather than put it out.

War hing other people who arent good with tools and making things is refreshing 😂 because im a novice inventor and robotics engineer i encounter some tmof the same short comings. Still you were abke to make a dope enclosure and i dig this 🙃 Im currently building am enclosure for my large 3d printed custom desgined cnc rn. I was also thinking about fire supression.... but i plan on using a big ass CO2 cylinder and a solinoid valve. The cnc frame is like 5 foot x 3 foot x 34 inches So i gotta dump a lot of co2 real fast and shit down the air evac sys
