As someone who is looking into getting into Spec Miata, this was very helpful! Thank you and look forward to more videos to help the people trying to break into the series!

Well Russ thank you for taking the time to watch them. When you are ready to pull the trigger on a beater Miata you will know just how to fix it up.

Al as I had not raced a Miata before, I found watching this video to be very helpful. Between your tips and Mark's feedback, I dropped 8 seconds from Saturdays times. Only 8 more to go to match yours :) See you at the 25HR...

Great video tutorial Al! I'm looking forward to trying all of this tomorrow! Turn 9 w/ no brakes sounds gnarly, but I'm going to work up to it. I didn't know the fast way around 2 was to suck down to the inside and hug it mid corner. I was double apexing it. I'll try your line tomorrow as well. Thanks!

Are you going to start building the SMX Miatas? (The nc chassis) My na is getting old. I dare not touch the wiring harness or some plastic piece will break, and I can't find a new (old) transmission. Mazda is hot to get the new class going, and I am considering it. I'm not interested in large racing fields yet, and would use it for TT and would rent it to a kid for the SMX races. What do you think of smx? Are you strictly SCCA? Great video by the way...
@aracing

My main focus is to race the car myself then rent it out. The SMX class is very small in our area, I think only two cars. So from a car rental view it would not be very profitable. They do look like fun though

Is the coolant temp gauge connected to the heater core hoses and grounded to the chassis right there? That's smart.

good eye, yes. Then I hook up the overheating warning light to the upper hose.

Thanks for creating this video. Former bicycle and motorcycle racer-boy (64 yo) just attended two NASA Spec Miata events and I'm HOOKED! It seems like it makes pretty good sense to find a sorted (or on its way to being sorted) Spec Miata. I just need to learn what to look for and such. This video is a great start. Any ideas on where I might find listings for Spec Miatas for sale?

@@aracing Thanks a ton! I’m just barely getting into the miata racing scene and going to hopefully buy one tomorrow, in other words it’ll probably be a while until i’m ready for a caged track build but i will 100% keep this locked away for future reference!

Trying to remember the name, it’s in Sacramento on white rock rd. They build BMW race cars. When I drive past it or remember I’ll send it to you. This is the third cage I have had them do.

I hear you buddy. If you have a clean Miata keep it that way. Most of the cars i turn into race cars have tons of back fees, trashed interior, major body damage or all of the above. If you have a clean one id love to see a picture of it. alangulo530@gmail.com
