Andrea and Omar, amazing progress this week! Simon’s is such a wonderful builder - he’s really moving the project along. Andrea didn’t mention anything during her narration but it feels like you’re under a lot of pressure due to the change in season. Will there be a point where construction will have to stop due to winter weather?
@TheIndigoEscape

Hey Kailand! I’m a half full kind of person hahaha so I really hope not! We take it as it comes. It hasn’t become (yet) too cold. The rain is the biggest challenge at the moment. As long as we can continue, we will. ❤

@@TheIndigoEscape I hope you continue to get favorable weather! I live in New England so we have a definite bookend (snow) that halts all progress on outdoor activities. With reference to the glass half empty/half full analogy, my answer to the question is “The glass is refillable!”

Regarding the windows a recomendation: while storing them, keep them always in the right direction. My nephew who also builts a house in Portugal, kept them stored 18 months partially upside down or sideways, and the result was that the weight of the glass made it move inside the frame so he had to renew all silicon fixing. An expensive and innecessary extra cost. All the best to you!

Slow and steady wins the race. I am really liking the design of your eira and covered area. It will also make winter living much more bearable if you have a place a bit protected from the elements, and easier to keep clean for cooking and showering. Congratulations, all that lugging and carrying is paying off.

Wow nice progress on both fronts. Is it normal to do two burns on shou sugi ban finish? I've seen on other videos they only appear to do one burn and it results in a lighter, kind of half burned finish...
@TheIndigoEscape
Жыл бұрын
Great point! It will look half burnt eventually. All the roof’s wooden posts have been Shou Sugi ban as well and they were all burnt twice, brushed twice and oiled and looked pretty black as well. It’s best to do it like that because it protects the wood to the elements. The weather will eventually work its way and wash slightly the blackness.

Hi there I've just found your site and have subscribed, so doing catch up, 10 moths back, so this suggestion is probably not needed, however, your comments re brambles and unwanted weeds etc, have you thought of renting/buying a goat/s. I have seen this on another off grid show and the goats are worth the effort and money it seems, anyway just a thought, all the best and am looking forward to catching up(probably do it today) and can't wait to see how the old house begins to shine....sending ❤ from Western Australia
