Back in the 60's I put a 404 Isky cam in my car and the cast iron heads were shaved too much and most people put two head gaskets on to get the valves to clear. I took to the tech school I attended and set up on mill and did the same thing. Keeps the combustion chamber as small as possible and clears the valves. We never used aluminum heads could get better power out of iron. Those machined heads are still hanging in the barn.

Are you using the valve clearance pockets to increase valve lift?

Kind of... more so to incress the cc of the head to reduce the over all compression. I'm putting a supercharger on the motor and wanted to lower the compression some. Thanks for your question.

@@toddclyne3493 what psi and compression ratio are you planning on? Also are you focused on max power at high speed or torque down low? Thanks.

@@johntrhodes1 I should be at about 8.5 to 1 compression. I'll be only running 5 pounds of boost. I had a custom pulley made that I'll be showing in a video soon.

Seems like you could have changed the compression ratio by picking the right piston design. Early mod was just change the head gasket thickness. Surprised you could buy pistons and rings till you knew what you could do with the cylinders. Especially if some had sleeves.

Yes buying the Pistons and rings before boring was a risk. I had already bought the Pistons and rings before taking the motor apart and realizing that there was sleeves. Honestly it's easier to take compression out of the heads than it is to buy custom Pistons.

You had my rapt attention until you goofed up on compression ratio. Compression ratio is fixed and never changes unless you disassemble and grind stuff. When you add the super charger, you increase volumetric efficiency, not compression ratio. The volume of the cylinder at BDC, compared to the volume of the cylinder at TDC never ever changes. That’s compression ratio. The super charger merely crams more stuff into the cylinder.

I'm sure most got what we was getting at. I'm sure most don't even understand what you're talking about. Thanks for the engineer explanation of the inner workings of a gasoline engine. 😁

Hey, did you ever finish that project? You were truly on a roll there for awhile and I need to see that show completed. That remark about compression ratio is recip motor 101, known to all!

Brody 500 come on now. Are you going to go and hate on all my video's? 99 percent of people that put down other people's work are jealous. I highly doubt you are in the 1 percent. Are you grounded to your room again so all you can do is watch YT and hate on people's stuff? Come on enough already. Do you want me to thumbs down and leave dumb ass comments on your videos? If you don't like what I got to share then DON'T watch.
