That makes it sound so silly. If I was to make an underground cellar like Little House on the Prairie style.... why would adding wood into the walls make it hotter in there? If we are trapped in an avalanche... under snow... we should just have a piece of plywood in there with us to lay on and we'll be good to go? What is this?

How do you build a "roof" underground? And do you need an actual roof or just flooring on top? I dug out the room first, but now can't reach the level above as whenever I try to place a staircase to reach it, it says "can't place staircase, path blocked by grass". Not sure if that's a bug, since it's deep undrergound and there's no grass there.

Hello jontehdon and welcome to my channel. If you have a hole that is open to the air that is not deep enough. But yes you cn cover it with flooring tiles. Try using wooden stairs if you are using some other type. Also, stairs need clear tiles above the whole length of them to work.

I heard somebody mention doing a radiator style... room up near the top but open caverns below it with no doors. This kinda makes sense if it works like Rimworld but in 3D. But in history of real life, cellars were just underground rooms that never got hot or humid until probably late spring or summer... it gave them more time to dry and cure the goods. I think the main flaw in Rimworld and now this game is they want to have a mechanic to make stuff last forever. No food lasts forever back in those days and even now.
@perafilozof

Hello again, Lloyd G I fully agree and do hope developers move to more realism with food going bad after a while but then they will have to make it more balanced with the production. But they might not even have to, there are players who end up producing 10k+ food and don't even stop there. So production is high!

Yes, you can do it that way too. But the wooden beams don't lower the total insulation of the room as much as wooden walls or floors.
@AlexanderHL1919

I hope they change this because its nonsensical that a dirt room is better suited for a cellar than a stone cellar. Its illogical also that higher thermal insulation would be more beneficial than lower insulation because what you want is any heat to sip into the earth. So... to sort of dig deeper into the math, the insulation of the floor doesn't decide the amount of heat it lets trough from below, but rather it's used as one of the factor to calculate the room's total insulation, which decides how much heat the room lets in from all its surroundings?

@@perafilozof Took me a while but I now understood what makes up a kitchen - a butchering table and a hearth (any type). There should also be 2 wall pottery shelf. I found that adding floor tiles stops the rot. i had a bunch of leather, in a room, and I got a notice that one turned to rot, and I was confused. I checked, and all were 100/100hp. No problems, but there were a few that were 40/100hp, and I noticed they were the ones on bare ground, where as the ones on wood tiles, stayed at 100/100. The problem was that I forgot to add the wood tiles after expanding the room.

I wish this was explained better in the base game. I also wish there were some much better walls, floors and roofs avilable, your base is nice but i like massive castles and with that having space to go around in circles with the basement is just imossible. I have 20 times the basement size of that middle one, two layers below ground, imagine my surprize when it gave me 8 degrees Celcius temp in winter. Well now I know why at least. How do i get my villagers to prioritize the right food tasks? Seems like they just let the food rot on the ground instead of hauling, cooking and eating. I know priority and schedules and stuff but they just love to not eat
@perafilozof
3 жыл бұрын
For hauling you have to set that job at high priority like 1 on let's say one villager. Every other job must be lower then 1, because jobs go from left to right. If some job on the left from hauling is 1 and hauling is 1 as well, that job will be done before hauling. As for eating, they do that automatically once they are hungry, often just before going to sleep. Do you have enough room on your stockpiles which have been edited to allow food?

Form my own experience and tests my viewers ran torches won't change the temperature much in a large and underground great hall. Also, if you have only one shelf with food it gets eaten faster then it can go bad. Provided you have more than 1-3 settlers. Qbd welcome to my channel Midsi.

@perafilozof
3 жыл бұрын
Hello Cameron and welcome to my channel. Linen cloth is made from harvesting flax. It's automatically used in the production of clothing for villagers at the sewing station. To get a villager to use it he needs to have at least some skill with it (tailoring) and have a job priority for tailoring job. (1 is highest).

Why should we not fill the last room with floor tiles?
@perafilozof
3 жыл бұрын
Simply put the more floor tiles you add the lower the insulation is. Because dirt is the best insulating material. It doesn't let the heat come in. Wood let's in more heat.

Hi Second Id, and welcome to my channel. First of all, is your second room right below the first one? What are the walls, floor and roof made of? Dirt, or constructed material? How long is the corridor to get to the second, warmer room? Does the second room have a tunnel leading to it or a straight / zig zag staircase from above? Is that staircase opened to the air or locked into a room?
@secondid1150
3 жыл бұрын
@@perafilozof 1. its not below the first one. no underground room is below any room. 2. I didn't make walls. i thought natural clay have higher insulation than any constructed walls. floors are wooden, and no roofs. if you are asking whats above the room, its just natural clay. 3. no tunnels, no zigzag staircase from above. just one entrance using staircase. and it is separated with the room by wooden door. I can send you screenshots if you want.
@perafilozof
3 жыл бұрын
Hi, so first thing you can try is to expand the room but don't add new floor tiles, they reduce total insulation of the room. Yes, natural clay, dirt as I call it is the best insulator. The second thig is much harder as it request the room having a long single tile tunnel before entering it. And yes a screenshot would help to diagnose the exact problem.
@secondid1150
3 жыл бұрын
@@perafilozof Ok. so i think i found out the problem. i thought only presence or absence of floors influence temperature but it seems like the number of floor tiles matter more. Which leads to another question.. 1.Does room size really influence the temperature? or is it the newly added non-floor tiles (created by expanding room) that reduce insulation? if theres 5X5 size room and 10X10 size room (with same proportion of floor tiles and non-floor tiles), will they have different temperature or same? 2. Do floor tiles have different insulation depending on what kind of material you used(walls do. so i assume floors might too) thx for the quick reply. I subscribed you channels its really helpful waiting for you next guide.
@perafilozof
3 жыл бұрын
@@secondid1150 Hi, for your first question, I haven't done a proper test, so I can only say that form my experience so far a bigger room has lower temperature once it's dug out. Then as the floor tiles are added the temperature goes up. That is why it's logical that a bigger room with no floor tiles is colder but if covered with actual floor tiles becomes even warmer then a small room. As for the second question, in the current version of the game all floor tiles have the same insulation factor no mater the material. Thank you for the support and feedback!

Hi again! I am glad I could help. This is how I would do it: chose one stockpile to keep one to remove. Once you remove the second one, enter the options for the first one, and use the enlarge option over the items that where on the first one. Just make sure you have everything allowed on the one you keep that is on the floor.
