I live in michigan, and I had a 4x8 nest in the ground, and I poured gasoline down the entrance the exit and then there was a loose spot in the grass which turned out to be the brood chamber. When I lit the thing, you could hear it go 'boom', and the ground actually lifted up! The hive burnt for a couple hours so it was a big nest.

I'm here searching for "aggressive ground bees " new England. I'm trying to narrow down what species we've encountered. Both In Massachusetts, 2 different towns. Both were underground with multiple entrance/exit holes. I will say both times were aggressive swarms, and also both instances were "instigated " by humans. 1st instance was a family cookout, Normal amount of cookout bees.. some of the boys noticed multiple holes in the front yard with bees in and out. Of course they decided to use a wiffle bat for target practice. I want to save bees and also I'm allergic. My daughter and I were yelling to stop. Of course the boys ran away and my daughter was attacked she was stung 4x. The 2nd instance i was gardening in my flowerbed and there were nuisance bees flying out of a hole. Because I'm allergic I simply placed a rock over the hole, didn't think anything of it and went in to make lunch. I heard screaming so loud I thought the TV was on. No. My kindergartener had gone to quietly play on the steps. She was covered. I grabbed her in the house spraying OFF and stripped her because they were under her clothes. We hid while our houndog bravely ate the bees in thehouse. I think she may have had 1 or 2 stings. Not much if any. But they were SO AGGRESSIVE we couldn't leave the house. For a half hour they were slamming into the big front window and continued swarming the entire front yard for hours. After dark my husband flooded the holes with the hose and they were gone for good. In the 1st case much more instigation. Many more stings, shorter and less aggressive swarming. 2nd instance.. passive instigation, less stings, more intense, aggressive (under clothes) and prolonged swarming. I know this comment is long. I'm hoping someone knowledgeable sees it and can shed some light. Thanks

I am curious, as to why you chose to eliminate the bees during the day and why you used fire. 1. You want to eliminate the bees at night, not during the day, otherwise some fo the bees will be outside the colony hole and will return, while the bees are being killed 2. No need to burn them, the fumes from the accelerant will kill them

Hey Grampaw Willie, thanks for watching. I tried that technique twice also with dish soap which is supposed to render their wings useless. Thought I had success, but they came swarming out hours later. I was informed their hives are usually built above the channel they burrow after tunneling down a ways the hive is built above the tunnel. So I figured I ran the hose for hours and they watched the water flow right below them. So I dumped a cup of gas down the hole at 5am ****which is key because they are inactive at night****DO NOT APPROACH DURING DAY So yeah, gas, ignition from a distance, and done no more bees. Thanks for your time. Grace, mercy and peace from God to you and yours. Drew

Out there on a clear field is one thing. But, in a forest setting, close to streams (soft Earth) is where I've unfortunately come upon these little demons. I can't imagine having to explain, if things get catastrophically out of hand in a forest, with the use of gasoline and fire! Dry ice seems to work well enough without all of the risks associated with gasoline and fire.

Those sprays aren't what you want for ground nests, best case scenario you'll kill the guards that are right near the entrance but it won't get deep enough into the nest to eliminate the queens, as yellow jacket nests usually have multiple egg laying queens. The gas is one approach I used to use but now I use Tempo or Drione dust for any ground/crevice nest, which I would recommend.
