The only thing with those OBS Fords is the odometer can’t physically read 400,000 miles they reset to 300,000 after 399,999 and endlessly loop 300-399 so any truck with 300+ may or may not have 400 or 500+ miles

I'm looking at buying one of these. Were you specifically looking for a 97 for pre-smog in CA? Now that you've had it for over a year how do you like it and how is the MPG? I want to build one into a flatbed and 4x4. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and tips.

I had a 1994 F250HD 4x2 300-6, ZF 5 speed I bought for $950 in 2006. It had some light front end damage but less than 100,000 miles. Gas was going up so I bought a 4 cylinder Ranger. Clutch slave failed and I regretably sold it around 2014 while I was too sick with Lyme to fix it. I did drive it for about 8 months in 2010 doing pizza delivery getting 12.5 mpg ouch! What was fun is that lots of people were driving little tin can cars and the hood of my F250HD was the height of the roofs of many of them. I could easily see up and over many of them and when people saw me coming they gave me plenty of space. I sure miss that truck.

@@S.T.A.N.G That's good. CA being CA, the value also is in no smog for that truck. Open to do whatever really. Pre 97 diesels are exempt from smog. So lot of people hunting for 97 and older. The sweet spot seems to be around 9-15k. Usually the lower mileage, super clean smog exempt trucks can sit around 20k. I know my third gen cummins I bought has gone up in value just cause its federal emissions and I can run jus a muffler in CA which is legal. Most trucks here are CA emissions so you need a cat too
