After migrating from a 8 bit Atari to a 16 bit ST and discovering Dungeon Master in 1998, it was a jaw dropping experience. I would have never expected such a title possible on any 8 bit system; truly an achievement. I would also love seeing this title on the 8 bit Atari as well.

“A dungeon crawler”? Um, it’s THE dungeon crawler that spawned 3D/FPS roguelike genre which morphed into the modern looter/shooter.
@IsaacKuo
2 жыл бұрын
That title goes to Dungeon Master, which is what Eye of the Beholder was mostly a clone of. I mean, Eye of the Beholder was a much bigger game in terms of content, but Dungeon Master was the one that revolutionized the genre and introduced the various mechanisms (grid party layout, drag and drop equipment handling, point and click interface with movement/rotation buttons, realtime instead of turn based, and so on). Before Dungeon Master, there were first person RPGs like Bard's Tale, but generally with only one player character, or moving to a separate battle resolution screen with an older style of presenting multiple characters. And usually it was turn based, following the example of Ultima. Dungeon Master really rethought how things worked, taking into consideration mouse control and GUI principles.
@FingerBreakerWu
2 жыл бұрын
@@IsaacKuo Eye of the Beholder was such a big hit for SSI, they came out with Dungeon Hack which was a totally randomized experience based on EoB. No EoB, no Dungeon Hack, no rougelike dungeon crawlers. Bard’s Tale and Wizardry before it was the prototypes for the turn based strategy RPG which evolved into the Baldur’s Gate and Divinity series.

Thanks for letting me know Jon. Audio recording process was disjointed this time around and that time mark is indicative of EOTB and Yeti voice over being recorded before the rest of the content. the amiga version for eob has an automap(I think, some version of it has) hack. the automap makes playing the game a lot faster, there's couple of places with teleport traps that you can't notice running through. the c64 version looks great though
@vetodrom

There is a AGA version which is kind of a hack (which is a bit of an understatement) which provides an automap. The only original versions incl. a map are the Mega CD and GBA versions afaik.

Something you might want to look into for your videos is "Trackspacer." It takes an input audio (in this case, your voice track) and then carves out the frequencies in the other track that make it so they don't clash. This would allow you to not have your voice get stepped on by the sound effects without having to duck all of the sound. In this video, that would've been particularly useful when showing the last game, as your voice and the shooting sound effects clash and it was hard to understand what you were saying.
@RetroGamerNation

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I would have to admit that when it came to this video, I was a little short on time availability and I took a couple of short cuts when it came to sound production. I will definitely take the time to not make the same mistakes in the future and I will check out Trackspacer.
