To all you naysayers...this is not the forum to announce your dissatisfaction with internal corps disagreements on the direction the corp is going. You denigrate and disrespect the performance and efforts of the members who put their blood sweat and tears into their art. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Show proper respect to the people who gave their all on the field of competition and save the crying for a time and place where it will do some good. Now to the corps members who actually performed that show....be PROUD of your corp and the job you did

That doesn't make a bit of difference. It's misrepresenting itself as drum corps, just like DCI. This isn't drum corps, this is summertime BOA and WGI, nothing more.

You can think it all you want to. That doesn't make it true. Again, I don't blame you. You're just doing what people who should damned-well know better are teaching you to do. What's alarming is that you seem to be perfectly satisfied with lukewarm mediocrity, and that you have no desire or motivation to get better. "Good enough" seems to be the ceiling of the Cabs' aspirations today, and that's just not the Cabs' way....or at least it didn't used to be. Now you can talk about "evolution" all you want to, but losing the ability to discern whether you could do a better job or not is the opposite of "evolution". And if your instructors won't teach you that skill....then by God vets will, whether you like it or not.

Basically, your lack of effort. I'm 100% positive you're better than this. And it's heartbreaking that you either can't see and hear that, or you don't WANT to see or hear it, or you just don't care. Stop being average, and start being The Caballeros.

Internal disagreements ? Really ? You may do well to listen to them . They are the musicians who do the blood, sweat and tears and bear most of the costs as well. Without the musicians who actually are the show, you have a ballet troupe on a grass stage with prerecording . That is a fact .Those who have attempted to devolve this once unique venue to an equal opportunity PC spectacle of mediocrity have missed the mark. Critique unfair ? Dont post vids . Hopefully the playing members within who have voiced their critique to the direction will be seriously considered and accepted with truly open understanding and support . The real shame would be on those who would just play the game .

The members of the corps deserve better for all of their hard work and dedication; and so does the audience. Leadership is the problem, as we know. Among those thousands of fans there are fans who wonder why the performances include music that is obscure, and useless props on the field, and the whimsical color guard routines. Replace with great music and skillful rifle and flag presentations, and perhaps the American Flag will also find a place. The audience will jump out of their seats for sure!

So, after what was a very long summer of training, rehearsals and competitions these ladies and gents, both young and old who are performing their hearts out on their finals performance, you find it appropriate to trash them ON THEIR OWN VIDEO for it? You do understand the kids responding to you are in this video right? I sure hope you don't have kids of your own. I'm not sure many parent's would appreciate you trash talking their kids achievements. Make it a point to remember what goes into a production and also remember its not about YOU. Unless you think you can do what they do. Either way drum corps has changed. You should either embrace that or just move on.
@lindaeferraro

No trash talk, just an opinion based on experience. I don't know a lot about many things, but I do know what it takes to produce a program that can thrill the audiences, and can give pleasure and great memories to the students. The kids deserve better leadership.

I'm pretty sure the kids at Cabs and everyone else competing in both DCA and DCI are in the best hands possible. I don't believe I have heard your name announced during any performance so I'll simply give a nod to your opinion. But that's really all it is. Now move on to someone else's video and leave your opinion there too and see how they respond. Or better yet, check out the alumni.

Linda's "opinion" is one shared by many, including myself. This soulless garbage is humiliating on so many levels. It's not the performers' fault (they're just doing what they're being taught to do), but rather the fault of the staff, half of whom are dance instructors with no background in music, beyond rolling around on gym floors in winter guard. This is NOT drum corps, and the Caballeros' signature sound has been replaced with what can only be described as base mediocrity. Ditch the by-the-numbers Hunsberger method playing style. Ditch the ridiculous, expensive props. Ditch the embarrassing dancing and prancing. Ditch the overbearing amplification. Ditch the quest to turn drum corps into winter guard. And for God's sake, let the sopranos actually play ABOVE the staff and let the hornline put out some unamplified volume......both of which is what put the Caballeros on the map in the first place. There's lots of talent on the field, but all that talent is being underutilized and buried beneath extremely unwise instruction and artistically bankrupt philosophies.

As a current member of the corps, I can confidently claim you have no idea what your talking about. You can choose to like it or not. However, your opinion while your own is dated and irrelevant. "Modern" drum corps is not what was and it never will be. Truth! Cabs have always been cutting edge and still are. Your preference to an idea that is older than the average age of the current member is not what is desirable by today's standards and that of today's members.. There are alumni corps who still march nostalgic shows for you to get your fill. I am sure they will appreciate your preferences.

Stairway to heaven was an exciting up beat and full of rock energy - this was not! Stop playing for the judges and get back to entertaining the fans! Skillful ? Sure maybe but very boring, drawn out with useless obscure music and a song like stairway should not put you to sleep however this rendition sure does.. You have destroyed the identity of the ONCE GREAT HAWTHORNE CABALLEROS!

your reply though civil is well taken but it's as cookie cutter as the now band of Cabs , once known as the cutting edge and ambassadors of Drum and Bugle Corps. When I viewed the video I was surprised and not pleasantly. If you are a marching, playing member, props to you for your love of what it is . You hear some of the remarks .Your choice is to disregard them if you wish. They are not meant to be a personal affront but may have a shred of validity. If you decide thats so ,then look to the future of your beloved pastime and become involved directly in it's continued existence and valued heritage? . I would venture to add that the powers that be have no real connection with the uniqueness of the original genre and actually may have had a disdain for it . Heres how to tell, mention the word band to them and you will know their philosophy and current and future direction . regards
