I like the latitude that the Gauls provide in color variations and they make up a fantastic and unique army. As always, I look forward to your next video. 9:43 talking on the Gaul in the legionnaire formation, this is something that would happen even during Caesars campaigns. While practically all Gauls who joined Caesars army would be formed into auxiliary cohorts (around 2000 auxiliary’s per legion) the majority were Gaulic nobility recruited by Caesar to be both his main cavalry force (as Gaulic cavalry was considered better than Roman cavalry) and as hostages as if their home province rebelled he could just have them executed. As for how one would become a legionnaire, simple. Either he was a auxiliary who joined in the very early days of Caesars campaigns as a auxiliary and served his 20 years as a auxiliary and gained his citizenship, or he was a Gaulic noble however having been dismounted due to the loss of his horse and no replacement was shifted into the legions to serve instead. Plus while we always look to the Roman legions as being well Roman, we do have to remember by the time of Caesar the Roman Republic includes the provinces of Iberia, Carthage, Alexandria and Greece. This is actually what makes playing stuff like the Roman Civil War (or Caesarian Civil War) so interesting as you can include lots of brands of legionnaires and auxiliary in your forces - I.e. if playing Pompeians you can have Roman Legionnaires painted in a very Greek and Iberian style with small hints of armour and shields tossed into represent soldiers buying their equipment on the go especially during this more hard period. Plus it also allows for the fun of having romans supported by Numidian cavalry and Iberian skirmishers fighting against romans with Celtic slingers and Gaulic cavalry. As for one small thing, I’d love to see your comparison of these romans and Gauls to that of Victrix’s Roman and Gaulic boxes.

Excellent work on these miniatures! I especially like how you have the Romans curved to give them a look of being in battle; I will be using that idea on my Imperial Romans. What static grass applicator are you using? I've been thinking about getting one and figure I'll go with one that is recommended.

Hi Martin another fantastic video. I picked up the SPQR starter set a few years ago and have most of the Gauls left to paint! Quick question I am trying to find some flags for Ralph 2nd Earl of Westmorland for my Wars of the Roses army, but I'm really struggling to find any. Do you have any recommendations?

Hello buddy, thanks for the comment, glad you like them, I did see your comment on the PCP, I was just looking into it. It would seem that Ralph Neville s coat of arms was the typical Neville crest, a Gules a saltire Argent, here's a link, essentially a white st Andrews cross on a red field cuhags.soc.srcf.net/gen/tng/showmedia.php?mediaID=107&medialinkID=333 His livery colours appear to have been Sable and Giles (so black and red) apparently and some of his badges include a black bulls head with yellow horns Hope this helps
