Dude this show is awesome! I'm a sophomore trumpet in high-school and hoping to get a spot as a section leader next year. You inspire me to do my best and keep pushing forward. I really love these head-cams lol.

What was your progress like in high school? I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm wondering what types of pathing people take to work their way up to this.

chief757 I’ve really REALLY been getting into trumpet this year and wanting to improve and now I regret now caring at all back in middle school. Like I just wonder if people have breakthroughs all of a sudden in a few months or if it’s just slow and steady the entire time

@@Zuperdawg I guess we are the same people because I'm the exact same way. I never practiced in the summer and never practiced at home until this year and now I regret it.

I've done marching band since 8th grade, but very rarely did I have a regimented practice routine until university. However, I frequently took my horn home and just played because I thought it was fun. My biggest piece of advice that I can give is to learn to play the music you enjoy because if there's no enjoyment in the things you practice early on, you're going to get burnt out really quick.

Practice practice practice. Like what buticus said where he didn't have a regimented practice session, I didn't either. I just sort of played fun things I found in books or on the internet everyday that challenged me. I am going for Spirit of Atlanta, but there are corps like Jersey Surf who will take less experienced people and work them up to the world class level.

Any tips on practicing double tonguing? I want to do dci and can pull double Gs out of my ass but my double tonguing is absolutely atrocious at the moment. Sick performance by the way.

A great book to help out with learning is the amazing Arban trumpet book. Make sure to take things slow at first, really make sure the tongue speaks on the Ga part (the back of the tongue hitting the roof of your mouth).

Say the syllables you use to double tongye every day when doing whatever youre doing For example, riding your bike youre saying "ta-ka-ta-ka" or youre cooking food you say "ta-ka-ta-ka" over and over again. Work that syllable (or whichever you use) deep into your skull. That's what i've done and i've gotten mine pretty consistent.
