Steve Paikin invariably does his best to dig deep on The Agenda and also to hold his guests accountable when they blow smoke. His repeated attempts to get MPP Stan Cho to come clean about the Eglinton Crosstown imbroglio ("Getting Ontario Moving | The Agenda" available on YT) in Spring 2023 earned my respect. Cheers.

Big fan of your Interviews and of Steve. Push back to Steve’s support of federal funding to legacy media. Conservatives 20 points ahead is in ‘spite’ of legacy media who for over 8 years showed their unabashed bias. People are not going to “legacy” media as their main source of information. I like Steve and his program, at least in the past when I followed it, but he obviously has a blind spot regarding the shift in CBC. I see their spin within seconds. The At Issue panel (Andrew Coyne, Althea Raj and Chantal Hebert, and Elamin Abdelmahmoud on that show) are among few independent voices on CBC. so much of the other political programs and headline coverage is terribly biased. I am one of many former Liberal supporters who recognize the extreme progressivism of that party and it’s CBC boosters.

@@biggerthanmepodcast And don't forget CBC's biggest sin: LIE BY OMISSION - they intentionally bury stories that don't fit the left-wing nuttery. Example: there exists substantial evidence that Justin Trudeau and/or his currently-incarcerated-on-child-porn-charges-former-roommate-and-drinking-buddy ...had...um.... relations... with a teen student while they were teachers at West Point Grey Academy. There is certainly more than enough evidence to warrant asking Trudeau some pointed questions on the matter. But CBC never has. Why not? I am forced to conclude the answer to "Why not?" is because CBC appears to have become a left-wing radical untrustworthy bribed biased pack of liars who intentionally hide stories from you. 20 years ago they were not like this.

Let's cut to the chase. We don't care if a journalist happens to believe in liberal or conservative ideas. We care that they will be honest and critical of the people who might implement government policies based on these biases. We care that they will be honest if they or the people they may have supported are wrong. Why? Because if a government, of any party is too corrupt, we have to look at alternatives that we may not have supported otherwise. This is the most important part of democracy. This is what the "free press" should deliver.

I think the bias of public media isn't about funding or being worried about "biting the hand that feeds you." Seems to me it's the same problem we are seeing in many post-secondary educational institutions - the institutions self-select for progressive hires. I don't watch CBC TV, but I have been a regular listener of CBC Radio 1 for maybe 40 years or more. I grew up with Peter Gzoski, Michael Enright, Barbara Frum, etc. I can't think of a current Radio 1 host with the same depth. I can't stand the incessant outpouring of wokeness and no longer listen. Steve may be able to host a civil interview with the likes of Jordan Peterson or Glenn Loury but I challenge you to find someone at CBC who can.

No. The memebers of any organization will always bow to the agenda of the funding source. period. this is because of the very real threat of a loss of funding, (which threatens the workers financial stability) thus creating Tort in the relationship. The only way an organization stays true to its purpose, is by people voting with their wallet, thus they either produce what they say they will with h9nesry and integrity, which means people fund them by buying g the product, or they go out of buisness.
