I don't know if you were aware, but the mod tools have an additional purpose: program compression. With the correct string of inputs (all of which can be found in the game in similar ways to getting the mod codes), you can remove one panel from any and all programs to a minimum of one panel, giving you much more flexibility and capability. Additionally, using certain lotto numbers you can get in the game (mostly by buying the snacks in the train station), you can get key items that allow you to rotate programs, giving you even more flexibility.

Actually the mod tools lets you input error codes for wrong colored program installed in the customizer. These wrong colored programs(mainly the orange programs) give a bug after inputting the correct error code for that program. Run the customizer without any errors and you can input a mod code instead. These mod codes can give you great abilities, but at the cost of a terrible bug, like greatly losing HP while on the custom screen or battling, or even turning your panels into poison when you walk on them.

I really love the new overlay, and the fact that it has a section dedicated to music is even better. I love these Gameplay vlogs a lot on KZitem, but seeing one that actually tells me what the background music is makes me feel wonderful. 1:10:30 This is by no means a better method, but Bass has an attack that he will only use if you sucessfully dodge his attacks multiple times where he charges his hand (BTW this move is Bass using his "get" command in order to harness Energy around the net)and Bass throws a shockwave that acks like a Quake Hammer in Battle Network 1 (those viruses that have Stone/Iron bodies). The interesting part of this attack is that Bass loses his aura when he uses it, meaning the devs did think about the possibility of softlocking to it. This attack is not to be confused with Bass spamming his Projectiles, as that attack he only uses when his aura is down and will heal his aura back up. 1:27:30 Anti-DMG Navicust program can only be used with the Shadow style, which is blue exclusive. It's the reason it was not working.

@@creationcorporation6267 on a techinical level, the rewards for battles are based on speed as in how fast you complete the battle, damage taken, less hits, higher reward, and how many panels you moved on, so techically, idk if buster only actually finishes end game legitly, since with a buster you need to move to be on the same row, to attack and move to dodge, add that im sure the battles take forever to finish, with just the buster. techinically aquiring said chips for the library might be impossible, buster only due to some chips only appear as rewards. im just stating that factoid, cause i dont mind the use of the game shark to see if skill wise you can beat end game battles without them, and farming for chips/bug frags is annoying. and the barriers arent skill based, they are there for a completionlist run. to get all the chips/program advances, etc, cause chips are part of the gameplay mechanic. buster only run is removing a huge gameplay part as a challenege so ignoring chip barriers seems fair to me. im just pointing out how the rewards are decided at the end of the battle, its based on what your busting level.

The new overlay is pretty nice and the music choice is absolutely fantastic, my only issue is that the game filter makes the gameplay looks kinda weird though maybe it's just me. I had a really hard time the fist time fighting Alpha that I had to grind hard for it so I'm actually surprised that it's possible without any chips. One of my favorite thing about 3 is that it's definitely more challenging than the past entries and they step up the storytelling in this game. Aw ye, my favorite Battle Network game. As to the title, yes! Surprisingly enough it *IS* possible to beat the game with only the Mega Buster. I've managed it a few times myself, many moons and years ago. It ain't exactly easy though, and you certainly can't get through (most of) the SecretNet with Buster Only. You could say that "No, you can't beat MMBN3 with only the Mega Buster," because you DO have to: A) Get a plethora of Aqua and Fire-type chips later on for when Mr. Match makes a re-appearance, and during the PlantMan.EXE fiasco over in the hospital, as well as that infamous, stupid IceBall M chip for the sick kid. But you aren't really USING them, so you could argue against that as well. The Overlay is looking great! My only complaint (still) is that you're playing with a filter. It makes everything look like it's smudged around with some kind of eraser.

Ok new comment after finishing the video. there is actually things that can be done to make this run less hard and also doable without chips regarding Bass. Firstly you need to have the navicust part Setgreen to make the battle start with grass. With 2 or 3 weapon lvl +1s you can remove bass's first aura. Second, Bass only does his bustergattling attack after 1 or 2 single shots attacks so if you just only hit him when he does it, you can delay the aura for longer or indefinetely. His earthbreak which he uses well to break panels, as well as his Gospel Fire and Gospel CANNON are all countered by being in the front column as for the earthbreak you can go back and then stagger him with your shots or charged shot, the fire you showed that you have enough time to get in there after the attack to flinch him and the 3rd you most likely will have to get hit by the handle of the cannon in order to flinch him, really a good trade off for not using chips. Fun fact, during his earthbreak attack, he actually removes his own aura during the attack leaving you with the opportunity to hit him while he is doing it so you can still damage him even if he has his aura up and he is very low on hp( hopefully) so a charged shot would be well placed here. Also for the Antidamage program as well as shield or reflect programs. Those work when you press the B button and left button in very quick succession with B first. the anti damage will trigger and for a brief moment, getting hit will trigger the shuriken. The shield can be spammed in bn3 making it possible to survive the buster gattling from bass and wait out for earthbreak if you somehow mess up and he regains his aura. But I would say keep some grass on his side so that you have more chances to remove his aura if you mess up. Also for serenade, in White version there is a style called Ground style and if you have that with Heat, your flamethrower can break panels. How does this help for serenade you ask? well if you break the middle row so that Serenade is stuck on the sides( or any way that prevents him from moving up or down, he will not be able to deflect your attacks and will get staggered. However this is only possible in white version. And lastly I am not sure whether you used them or not but here is a tip that will actually help for future battlenetwork games as well. You can compress programs and make them take less space for example you can make undershirt only 2 squares. Those compression codes can be found online or ingame on bbs and npcs but if you hold right and input a series of A B R L in a certain order it will compress the programs. I think you need modtools to be able to do it in BN3 though. Also using the number machine and quests you can have color spins for the navicust which also help a great deal.

Ok since you asked for feedback, to start off the overlay is amazing and the dedicated space for the music and the speedup of the footage is a great ideia, honestly I think it's perfect. I'll just say that I heavilly dislikes the filter you use on the game, actually I dislike all filters in sprite based games, but I don't know how most ppl feel about it, it may be just a me problem. For how you played using cheats to bypass grind is A-OK in my books, the nature of the challenge itself makes these games extremelly hard and time consuming already, I don't think you need to suffer even more with tedious grind, plus the fun part to me is seeing the strategies coming to life on difficult parts of the game, mostly because ur playing in a way unintended by the devs and thus some very unfair scenarios happens (like the desertman boss fight). Finally the navicust codes are fine in my opinion because it is an intended mechanic of the game. Anyway I love your videos keep it up, can't wait for the BN4 playthru (I suggest playing Red Sun if you're only going to play 1 version since it's transformations are much more useful buster only, specially the first one you get which is very similar to guts style from BN2 and 3). Edit: Just realised that on BN4 sacrificing chips for the transformations might very well be considered "using" them.

Loved the video. A bit of advice in case you end up in a situation like the last Bass fight: you can select a chip in your folder to always show up in your opening hand by pressing the “select” button on that chip so long as you have enough Mb. Fun fact about Sandman, if you hit him with water he solidifies for a short time before reappearing. You should have tried out the other elements in the run too. I think the electric style shoots an electric ring like the rabbit viruses and doesn’t cause I-frames.

There's a little bit of nuance to the KingMan fight, namely his "Plan B" technique. It has different effects based on how you've been acting in the fight. Using Wind attacks to push his Pawns away or making holes to drop his Knight off the field will result in him swapping a Pawn for another Knight, and he'll continuously respawn Knights that you drop into holes. Hugging the back column will trigger his Area Grab and moving the Pawns forward. If you keep breaking his pieces (either with Break chips or with the BreakCharge NaviCust program that a guy in the lobby gives you), he'll spawn a Rook with a ton of HP to continuously guard him. If you're lucky and get an Aqua or Fire style, you can take advantage of their piercing charge shot against his Rook Plan B, but other elements don't have that advantage.

Bass wasn't even really deemed "too dangerous" cause of his behavior or anything. When Alpha nearly destroyed the internet way back when, they chose to shift the blame straight onto Bass, rather than admit their own faults. Bass, an autonomous net navi created BY HUMANS, was now just a scapegoat for them to avoid admitting that their "internet" was initially flawed and nearly destroyed the world. While I fully admit we don't know Dr. Hikari's side of the story, and its entirely possible he didn't really want to just shift the blame like that, that's what everyone else did. No wonder he hates humans so much: In his eyes, they created him solely to have a scapegoat if things went south. It didn't help that he was created around the same time as Alpha either. Heck, in the NT Warrior manga (which is a bit dubious in canon but worth mentioning) Bass was initially a troubleshooter for SciLab, who had good intentions with an unfortunate lack of restraint, until the events with Alpha happened where they just blamed him when he had absolutely NOTHING to do with it.

Fundamentally MMBN is supposed to be a social game where you discover cool codes, earn rare chips to trade, and battle your friends. Unfortunately with it being on the GBA system you're heavily restricted by your zip code. However, with the advent of the internet it just streamlines that process. Sure you don't get the same social excitement from hearing about a super cool secret from your friend group, but you get the infinite collective power of the internet.

Timeing is a pain though, but the same imput works for the Shield, Reflect, and Anti-damage programs later on in the series. You know Anti-damage has triggered when the Mega-buster doesn't fire, and the button combination must be held down, or it releases the stance. I don't know how long it lasts while held though.

if the game gives you something, for me the answer is obvious, it's legal, if it's a cheese, it's up to the player. But the game gives you mod tools, and the game allows you to use then with then having drawbacks, that the drawback don't affect you on this playthrough doesn't mean that it isn't balance, it's that what you are doing has other drawbacks, and as such, it balance out. Also can't wait for the Bug style run, i love the randomness of Bug Style.

You can get the Break Charge Navi Customizer Program (the one you mentioned around 34:40) before the first King Man fight if you talk with one of the NPCs in the town. This allows your charge shot to break obstacles upon a charge shot. The Guts Style gives you Break Buster later down the road, which makes each individual shot break obstacles. This also teaches you how to use Error Codes.

Another amazing buster only run! Honestly, I think its fine that you use whatever the game provides to make the runs just that little bit easier. Its not your fault that the penalties for some of these programs or codes dont affect you as a buster only player hahaha EDIT: No damage runs when? That sounds hype! You could even include some of the more funny fails~

You can beat Bass several ways without chips. You can trade for extra programs to get your attack higher, and with a lv5 buster x2, and a set grass program, you can deal exactly 200 damage with a flame charge shot.

I figured out a way to turn Bass GS into a one-chip run. You simply need to give yourself the Poison Panel bug again, and then ditch Buster upgrades altogether with Air Shoes and Float Shoes. Despite appearances, Bass is actually a grounded opponent so Poison Panels hurt him. So simply use one (1) Area Grab chip to steal his front column and then beeline to turn every panel you can step on into Posion. Once Bass regains control of his panels again, he’ll take a light drain from posion every time he goes in front. And then every time he uses Earth Breaker late in the battle, he’ll be standing on your posion AND left open to attacks because he let the Aura down. It’ll be long, tedious, and dragged way out but you’ll get through Bass on a single chip. Also having ElecGuts for this battle would let you stop his big charge-up attacks, unload a full clip of gatling shots, and leave his Aura down for a long while to speed up the process of chipping his HP down.

@@creationcorporation6267 it was definitely fun! I was half expecting Bass at the end of the story to be a bigger hurdle than that. But now the question becomes, how can BN4 and 5 be approached like this, with no style changes? Will you allow double soul usage? Can some liberation missions be doable? I'd say the real buster only challenge begins now

If I'm not mistaken, there's a StyleChange exclusive to each version... White has Ground Style and Blue has Bug Style. Also, Wood style change was how I cheesed Alpha.. Undershirt + Grass Stage means Alpha can literally never kill you. Also, amazing job on the video and the overlay looks pretty dope!
@creationcorporation6267
Жыл бұрын
Much appreciated on the feedback! That Undershirt+GrassStage idea is amazing, it probably works with a lot more bosses than just Alpha as well! As long as the field can't be broken, most enemies can't attack fast enough. Bug style is indeed in both games, as Shadow Style is the exclusive style for Blue. It's one of the rarest, however, since you have to use Invis chips but the Ghost enemy that drops it isn't actually in the game
@lykillcorreli6740

Fun fact! It was fixed in the international versions, but in the JP versions, it's possible to use the random style gained when at zero points in every style (ie, by using only the buster while already in Guts Style) to access the other version's exclusive Style!

Actually, in white version, you get ground style, and in blue version, you get the shadow style. Bug style can be obtained in both versions.

Don’t be mistaken, undershirt plus grass stage with a wood style is a great strategy but Alpha can definitely kill you through it, even base Alpha with 2000hp can kill you since he does that laser attack that hits the front middle panel and cracks it, so that strategy won’t work since the woodstyle charge shot requires you to be on that front middle panel to hit Alpha

Only 23 minutes in so far so I don't know if you incorporate this, but there ia a way to make navicust blocks smaller, so you can fit more. You hover over the block in your list, hold L, and put in a certain button code. It can be really helpful, like turning Undershirt into a 1 block program instead of 3 blocks.

I think woodguts is almost certainly the worst form for this challenge. Kudos for trying it with the clunkiest form possible. So, as a viewer, with how the Bass fight went, I think that the best way to do these challenges, especially with post game, is doing either minimal chip runs, or utility chip only, no healing, barring necessity. So you can use grass stage or north wind, or even something hindering like vacuum if you so desire, because ultimately, some of these bosses just cannot be beaten without some extra help.

You can still rapid fire the buster with Guts style you just have to mash differently or move often to reset the mash timer. It's actually important to learn this because the rapid fire puts enemies into invulnerably and the flinch may disrupt their AI.

I love the new layout and information on the side, their was a minor piece of information i had a thought that you could add halfway though the video, but i waited until the end to comment and forgot what it was 🤣. As for the NaviCust code and customization, I 100% agree with what you said on it. It's in the game and the game even gives you the codes for it so you should 100% use it to your advantage. I'm also so glad that you didn't subject yourself to grinding the bug frags as that isn't the point of the run so I also agree with skipping the grinding, same goes for the library. Overall I really enjoyed everything about the video and am excited to see more 😃😃😃

Thanks for the support! It's a good point on the information that can be added - I actually had another 20-ish minutes that I wrote and revised but ultimately cut out because it felt like I was spending too much time on mechanics and details that messed with the flow of the story/challenge. I'm still figuring this out, so maybe I'll give it a try in a future video and see how it goes?

I really enjoyed the video! Props to you, this game is challenging normally, let alone buster only I'm sure! You make a few comments about the story I'd like to respond to. Someone has already mentioned Beastman's operator not being present on Wily's base is why Lan has that spare seat to confront Wily and Bass in the finale. You mention being disappointed by the Deus ex machina of the giga freeze, which made me excited to see you complete the bit so to speak when Bass just shrugs it off, but that didn't really happen, I mean I could have missed something but beyond mentioning you were surprised when it didn't work, we just move on in the plot. This is-to be clear-a very small moment in your video, which is really impressive and very good! I just think it's worth pointing out the giga freeze isn't a Deus ex machina, which is what you opened by criticizing it as. Oh, but the you're right to criticize Mayl and Yai getting left on Beach Street, that is a pretty dated moment for sure. I will say, after replaying the game as an adult, the one character who did absolutely nothing for me as a kid but now really impresses me is Dex. This game does really interesting stuff with him, I think. As an adult, I start wondering "Why would Dex's dad and brother live in another town? What's his home life like?" And.. I don't know, it's not huge but I do like that he contributes something at Wily's base, he's just a lot more realized as a character here than Lan's friends usually get the opportunity to be in these games, so I wanted to praise that a bit at least :)

First: fantastic improvements on the audio. The Rapid rate of improvement in video quality is really impressive. Your writing, editing, and gameplay were already great, and these videos just keep getting better. Second: I think using high power bugged navicust parts where you can ignore the debuff because of the rules of the challenge is perfectly reasonable, because it's entirely possible for someone to have done that with chip usage still.

If I remember correctly MMBN3 blue had a unique custom style called shado or ninja or something like that. It would do a stepsword attack for it's charged buster shot instead of the traditional flame, tornado, bubbler, and zap ring. I used that version to kill a few of the security programs with some added mods on the customizer. Plus you can damage the sword virus's with it too
@casundrud

The charge shot for Shadow style is actually an Invis chip. If you use a WeaponLv+ program, it reverts back to the regular elemental charge shot, so there is no charge shot that will deal Sword type damage. Shadow style does give the AntiDamage navicust program though, which does deal Sword damage
