Usually I'm the furthest thing from a Chara fan but I have to admit, this made me respect him more. This was clearly a freak accident, it's obvious that he felt terrible about what happened-and he handled it with a lot of class. Respect where it's due

Fair enough, I'm mainly talking about not liking him on the ice. I'll admit that a lot of that is probably based on how he's usually done well against my Avs, haha. I haven't seen enough of his interviews to pass judgment on him as a person, but based on what I've seen here he's a pretty cool guy.

That was really classy what Chara did, the Habs and the Bruins are the biggest rivalry in sports but this game was definetly one with alot of class shown. Great game overall, the Bruins snatched the win in the end but we were lucky enough to pick up a point because we need as many as we can get right now. As a Rangers fan, Chara was always a privilege to watch and admire. He played the game hard, but clean. I had the opportunity to briefly meet him once and he couldn't have been more affable and pleasant - especially to little kids. The game is poorer without his presence and only Chara could have made me root for the Bruins when they won the Cup that year.

cus ya gotta be able to see and skate. Most hockey helmets actually do an amazing job of distributing head contact since it isn't a head contact sport in the slightest.

The more protective helmets restrict their vision, and the history of the NHL was for the players to wear no helmets until the 60s-70s

Honestly, exactly this. Neck guards and cages don't affect your performance whatsoever. It's most likely because it looks better and they make money off of "putting on a show" for lack of a better term

It's the dichotomy of this sportsmanship at one moment, and a likely fight at the next turn. Not this example specifically, just the dynamic of the game makes it very interesting on top of everything else.
