Helloooo friends!!!! If I wait too long in the day to can whole fresh tomatoes, it won't get done. So as long as I go on autopilot and do it first thing in the morning, it's not that bad and I don't even realize it's about a 90 minute processing time. 🤪 Thank YOU so much for watching, liking, sharing your comments, and subscribing! 💛💚

Love the canning videos. I’m pretty messy when I cook too. I’m always feeling under self imposed time presser so that makes things fly.😂

That's really nice to hear, thank you so much Kay! Haha yeah I tend to blame the veggies, or whatever I'm cooking. Everything rebels and starts fleeing! 🤪😆

Hi Ron!!! Fresh homegrown tomatoes are just the best. 🤗 I use chopped tomatoes a lot when I cook so I should probably can those also while we are still getting fresh tomatoes in. Thank you so much!!! 😊

Why do you remove the ring during storage?
@TheBourneHomestead
Жыл бұрын
If the seal isn't good, the rings can falsely hold the lids in place. By removing the rings it makes it easier to see if the seal is no good in the pantry. If the lids do become unsealed, not having the rings there also can prevent the possibility of the lids somehow resealing themselves.

Can I put Lemon juice on top of the Tomatoes in the jar, instead of first in the jar?

Everything that I have read that talks about it, says to add the lemon juice first before adding the tomatoes on top.

You are boiling them way too long. 45 minutes is more than enough

No I'm not. This is a standard processing time for waterbath canning. If you are using a pressure canner, the time is less.

😂I know. I blame the vegetables. Either the onions are flying, or tomatoes jumping ship. I feel like most of my time in the kitchen is cleaning up after them. 🤪😆Thank you Manda!!!!

Can i use fresh lemon juice?
@TheBourneHomestead
2 жыл бұрын
Fresh lemon juice can vary in acidity levels, so to be safe it is recommended to use bottled lemon juice. You can use citric acid in place of lemon juice, but the amounts are different. Depending on jar size just make sure to use the correct amounts for either lemon juice or citric acid, it would be listed in the canning recipes how much to use. 😊

Hi Krystal, Can I also add basil and or garlic with the Roma’s ??
@TheBourneHomestead
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl!! So this specific recipe doesn't have any of the extra things added, but there are other recipes that are similar with seasoning, or basil and garlic. Like there's the Basil-Garlic Tomato Sauce on page 33 that I want to try out this year. Just make sure that you're adding enough citric acid, or lemon juice to each jar. 😊

How much lemon juice for quart jars?
@TheBourneHomestead

I looked up a few of the canned tomato recipes in the Ball book, and they say it's 2 tablespoons of bottled lemon juice per 1-quart size jar.

Is water bath canning whole or halved tomatoes better than pressure canning?
@TheBourneHomestead
Жыл бұрын
Due to the acidity levels in tomatoes, combined with added lemon juice, pressure canning them isn’t necessary. 😊

Yes, because there is bacteria in/on the skin that is difficult to remove by just washing them. 😊

Are seeds an issue? I hear they make sauce bitter.
@TheBourneHomestead
5 ай бұрын
Seeds aren't an issue for us. Depending on how much time I have, I use the food mill and it removes seeds, but it doesn't make a difference flavorwise. When I roast cherry tomatoes to make feta pasta, or cook down larger tomatoes for fresh sauce, the seeds don't impact the flavor. 😊
