Holy moly! I didn't know the name ring just pops off!!! I've been slicing up my fingers trying to unthread it! Gah! Thanks for that close-up at the beginning! =D

Are there ball bearings in there somewhere? I recently took my lens into a repair shop and now the aperture ring is a bit out of alignment (it doesn't open all the way and spins a bit without closing any further) with it sounding like there's something rolling around inside.

If there is some play in the focus ring, very slight, and I wanted to correct it, I should just be able to pull the front element and then just tighten the screws on the top without going deep into the lens? Also the name plate, how is it held on?

Sorry for late reply. Yes, just pop off the name ring and do as you described. Name ring is just to be snapped in/out.

Good day friend! In your experience, is the front element the same size on the FD and the New FD, or are they different dimensions? Looking to swap elements from the new lens into a SSC body. Appreciate your reply!

White gas, Ronsonol Lighter Fluid or Naphthalene (Naptha) would be much safer de-greaser to use. That brake cleaner can strip painted and even anodized aluminum surfaces. Only commenting on this because it's critical not to pass on errors to others.

Hi Bopp Leng, after cleaning do you need to put new fresh oil on moving parts or just clean and put back together?

Lighter fluid (Ronsonol) is an excellent alternative cleaner to automotive brake cleaner. Be sure to have good ventilation and ample fresh air flow when you use either of these carcinogenic products!

What particular cleaning kit or materials should I get to just do cleaning of the elements? Is is possible to remove lens haze? Thanks.
@ML24DEU

Use soft optical lens tissues, micro microfiber cloth, be very careful for the inner coatings - they are not as hard as the outer ones. Use a hand air blower to make sure no fussel (pill) stay in there. Normally with one moistered cloth swipe the haze, dust or fungus should go away. Use good light and don't let the coating fool your eye. Good luck.

It may be a bit late to answer now but I post it here just in case other people want to remove the ring and can't find a way. Ideally, buy a rubber stopper of the right size and you can get it done easily. However, if you don't want to waste time going out to look for a stopper and you found that double sided tape won't work, here's the trick. I used a pills bottle of the right size and added a few drops of hot glue at the rim of the bottle and allow it to cool down. The glue will grip the name ring and a few turn will allow the ring to come off.

Scott Botfield The k button on your key board will reliably pause and unpause the video. (the space bar isn't always reliable on youtube for reasons that are too long to explain here) The . (period) and , (comma) will advance and go back 1 frame at a time, respectively. The forward arrow will advance the video 5 seconds and the back arrow will move it back 5 seconds. You can also use the speed modifiers in the setting menu. Everyone works at different speeds, many time I find videos way to slow and end up putting them on 1.5x.

Wow, Boop, while you were doing this vid, I sent my 100-300 FD zoom lens to a repair shop. they told me it couldn't be fixed because they couldn't get the parts. So I bought another one on Ebay. and buying the replacement lens costs less than fixing the first lens. at least when the replacement fails, I'll have the parts to fix it.

Can I in any way clean this with WD 40? :D And do i need to put on some grease after that or not?
@ML24DEU
8 жыл бұрын
Hi, WD-40 is for cleaning in general I assume it does not make the surface grease free. In that case, if don't have something else, I rather would use your frangrance i.e. Old Spice or so...Don't put any oil or grease to it! Good luck.
